Re: DS circumcision
When I was in nursing school we all had to watch one being done. I have seen c-sections and even actual OR surgeries but I turned away when they were doing the circumcision. I am having a boy and we are going to circumcise him but I would absolutely would not want to watch it.

Even at a Jewish bris the mother typically is not in he room (almost never) and the father is advised to look away. It's MUCH more traumatic for the parents than the baby
That's not true at all.
Really? Maybe then it's different in NY? I'm not from here but every single bris I've been to, and I've been to many, the mother waits in a bedroom with some family or friends to keep her busy, and while the dad is in the room someone usually stands with him to keep him occupied. I'm expecting a boy and when talking to my ILs it seems a given that I won't be in the room during the actual circumcision. Afterwards, yes, and I will bring him in but I would leave the room during the procedure. Perhaps it is done differently here.
Ive been to many brisses and every bris I have been to (they have all been in NY) the mother was present in the room (orthodox, conservative and reform). I had once read a book where it was the custom in northern England for mothers to be out of the room during a bris, community there was originally from russia so maybe that was their custom but Ive never heard of that custom being followed in the US. Where are you from?
Toronto, but my family (grandparents) are Eastern European (Russia and Poland). Most of the Toronto Jewish community has origins in Eastern Europe so perhaps that is where it came from. My ILs live here though and also didn't seem to think it was odd when I said I would not be in the room. Maybe it is just by community.
Either way, I personally do not want to be in the room. DH and all our parents will be in the room - I'm comfortable with that and I will come in right after and get my LO.
Being in the room and watching it are two different things. I was in the room, but did not watch!
A good Mohel will complete the entire circumcision in about 1-2 minutes. Honestly, the baby cries more because his diaper is removed than the actual circumcision.
