DSLR mommies( point/shoot cameras)- Photo classes on LI
Berges Bros is now offering classes and a few of them too....starting with a 101 and if you dont need that, you can choose others.
There even is an ELEMENTS class!
Classes run about $50
Locations are in their Syosset store, Amityville one or sometimes they will get a local hotel to hold the class.
Here is a list and schedules. CLASSES
Another one with classes and prices Class/Prices
I think I may sign up for one.
If you purchase a camera from them, you get some classes for free.

Oh really?????? I'm definitely interested, I'll check it out now! Let me know which you're taking.
BTW, this is AFTER I spent what, like $400 on 2 Nikon classes I took this spring...and learned nothing (by my own fault b/c I'm terrified of my camera!)

Corinne, they have a digital 102 I think that might be a good start. What it goes over:
This 2 hour course is geared toward advanced owners of Digital SLR's and Point & Shoot Digital cameras. Topics will include Color settings Exposure Controls Depth of Field White balance Plus many tips for you to get the most out of your photos

Re: DSLR mommies - Photo classes on LI
I'm a huge fan of Berger Brother's. I now buy my stuff from them and they've always a huge help.
I do like the store in Amityville better than the Syosset as far as the staff but they've always been super helpful and patient even when I have 2 screaming kids with me
I have met Yvonne Berger and she's fantastic. I would def. recommend taking any class she offers.

Re: DSLR mommies( point/shoot cameras)- Photo classes on LI
I like Yvonne Berger & think she's a good teacher.
Just a heads up though - she often teaches classes (photography and photoshop) FOR FREE at Northport library. You can check the schedule. This past month was an intro to Photoshop Elements. If you want to follow-up with their monthly newsletter: http://www.nenpl.org/services/newsletter/archive/index.php#2009. They will take people out of district I think once 7 days have passed.
Having taken her free courses, I'd also sugget taking the free course & then rather than investing the $50 in a course that is a general class on photography, hire her to teach a personal class geared toward YOUR camera. I think you'd learn a lot more.

Re: DSLR mommies( point/shoot cameras)- Photo classes on LI
Sorry, Deb. One more thing since I've spoken to Yvonne a few times about this.
If you wanted to get a bunch of people together with the same camera, same level of understanding (beginner/intermediate/advanced), same goal (getting off auto, learning to take indoor photos, portrait photography), then you could get a slightly discounted deal. For example, if she charges $50-75/per person, is it possible to get a 3 hour course with 4 students for less $$. What you don't want is someone who is advanced in a course with beginners - I think it's the worst mix because you teach to the common denominator & you wouldn't want a beginner getting lost.
We did speak about putting together a "lifestyles photography" course with people from here but I never got my act together to do it.

Re: DSLR mommies( point/shoot cameras)- Photo classes on LI
I know this post was from last month, but I just wanted to add that I also have taken Yvonne's classes at the Art League of Long Island. She's going to be doing another class next month & again in January. Just thought I'd share.
