DS's spit up issues continue
DS has been spitting up more frequently and more forcefully since Monday. He has also been spitting up a greater amount of BM. He vomitted yesterday morning, but was content after that. After I finished nursing DS yesterday afternoon, he began to spit up a lot every few minutes for about 20 minutes. He spit up a decent amount at the next feeding or two, but barely spit up during the middle of the night feedings. I left a message with the pediatrician and by the time someone called back, the more forceful spitting up returned. I gave him a bath this morning over an hour after his last feeding. Towards the end of the bath, he spit up all over my arm and himself.
We went to the pediatrician this afternoon. DS had gained weight since last Monday's appointment. He was 13 lbs 1 oz last Monday and now he's 13 lbs 8.6 oz. The dr. thinks DS probably has reflux. Even though DS isn't irritable when he spits up, the dr. said he shouldn't be spitting up so much and so forcefully. The dr. wants to rule out pyloric stenosis, which is most common in first born males. He doesn't think DS has this, but wants to make sure. We have to go to the children's hospital in our area on Friday. DS has to fast for 3 hours before the test. He has to go to radiology where he'll drink some barium and then have x-rays done. Hopefully he doesn't have pyloric stenosis, but if he does, he'll have to have surgery. If it's reflux, he'll have to take Zantac for a short period of time.
I had hoped he was just a "happy spitter," but the spitting up this week has definitely made me concerned. I'm not looking forward to Friday's procedure and I hate the fact that I won't be able to feed him for a while. Sometimes he can go 3 hours between feedings, but other times, he's hungry after 2 hours. Hopefully, we'll get some answers.

Re: DS's spit up issues continue
We went through the same thing with my son. It's very hard to see
We went for two upper GI series...he had borderline pyloric stenosis, and it did correct itself. The dr said that once he starts to sit up, the spitting up would get better, and then when he started walking it would go away. And he was right...
Is there anyway that you can get an appt right in the morning?? I was told that he had to fast overnight..just double check on that. Also, not sure if they told you, but make sure you bring a bottle and a nipple....they are going to cut the nipple to put the barium in, and then you won't be able to use either after.
Just be prepared....he will be COVERED in the white barium...I wanted to cry when I saw it all over him...then it was kinda funny (mean mommy!)
Also, the only time my son was ever consipated was after drinking the barium. When I saw him straining, I pushed him legs up and down to help push on his stomach...and a solid white ball came out But he was fine after!
Sorry for it being so long, just wanted to give you all the info I could! If you have any more questions, just ask.
I hope everything turns out well. Please keep us posted

Re: DS's spit up issues continue
Thank you so much. The nurse at the pediatrician's office made the appointment for us. When she spoke to the hospital, they said he just has to fast for 3 hours before the test. No one mentioned anything about a bottle. I'm BFing so I usually don't have bottles with me. I'll bring one just in case.

I brought a bottle when we went for the upper GI series, but they actually used the nursery bottles to give her the Barium...the pediatric nurse put extra holes in it and it was actually her first bottle ever and she did fine with it! Good luck! Hopefully he will just be a "happy spitter", like my daughter and meds will help a bit!

Re: DS's spit up issues continue
I'm so confused about his spitting up. He was great during the middle of the night feedings and he hasn't spit up much today. Could the forceful spitting up and vomitting he had earlier this week been something else other than reflux or pyloric stenosis?
