I feel like the older kids have become the real parents....no wonder the older daughter doesn't talk to them....assuming she still doesn't because I stopped watching this show after the first few episodes. I can't even watch the commercials.
They have an older daughter that doesn't speak to them?  Are you sure you aren't confusing them with someone else?

It's the Jeub family where the eldest daughter is estranged, not the Duggars.

The only thing I wonder about is how her uterus doesn't fall out of her vagina!
Also, just to add she hasn't been pregnant 19 times, she had some twins in there somewhere.

I feel terrible, terrible for all the other kids who are FORCED into being babysitters and helping raise their siblings. It's horrible to do that to them! They have time to be moms and dads when the time is due for them. They deserved to be kids not mom's assistant.

This is the life they want and they all seem very well adjusted.
IMHO, I was shocked to hear that she was pregnant again.. only because she has had three c sections and what if she needs another one? Four is a lot for her body to handle.

You know, there was a point in time where I thought they were ridiculous, but after watching a ton of their shows, they really make it work, and the parents really seem to make an effort to know their kids very well. I do not get the feeling that the kids are the real parents at all. They do not rely on public assistance for food or shelter, and they're not harming anyone, so I don't see what the issue is. Good for them!

I agree. I think she is probably taking a big risk here, especially considering the last baby was delivered by c-section less than a year ago. I am sure her doctor advised her against getting pregnant again.
Also, she is only 10 weeks pregnant, why is she announcing it so early? She has been lucky to have all healthy pregnancies since Joshua, but I would never announce it to the world so early. Who knows what could happen?

I can appreciate their frugality and debt free lifestyle, but I do shake my head at their views on gender roles. What if one of their daughters wanted to be a doctor? Or one of their children is gay?
I mean, their daughters can't wear pants?????

To each his own, and I just hope that they have another healthy baby. In the end that's all that REALLY matters, and they all seem to be just fine in their roles. It's not the life I would want, but that doesn't make it bad. My SIL is pregnant with her 10th.......trust me none of the good or bad typed on here isn't anything I have not heard before, nor her. They are happy, healthy, and doing this themselves. It's just in the recent years families shrunk in size. My grandmother(s) are one of 11, and one of 15.......that used to be the norm.

As for the college thing and gender roles, I'm not so sure that wikepedia entry is entirely correct because I could swear I've heard the parents say on the show that some of their girls would like to be midwives and they'll support them in the path they choose, and I am pretty sure all the girls helped build their house and were using power tools, etc. That seems pretty outside the gender roles to me. But I could be wrong.

i saw an episode where they say every few weeks they have switch job days.
the boys cook and clean, girls change the oil in car and change tires...do outside work.
i remember the episode too where their friends the bates said they do believe in college, but believe trades are more important and that if you know a trade you will always find work.

Let them have 20 more if they want, why is it my business?
From the little I have seen of this show, these children have amazing values and morals, albeit, a little on the conservative side, but maybe we need more kids LIKE THIS in the world.....
And WHY is it the parent's obligation to send them to college? Then can be like me and a lot of others out there who actually PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES.....
I think this family is a wonderful example of what FAMILY really is.......
