Dumb ques. about taking away the bottle...
I am just curious b/c this is my first so I don't really understand what is the rush to get your DC off the bottle at age 1? I guess what I don't get is what is the difference between them getting milk from a sippy cup or a bottle?
Also, when I reduced the number of bottles (from 4 to 3) DD seemed hungry at night though she eats whole food..at what age do they no longer "need" a certain number of oz.?
Thanks!

Re: Dumb ques. about taking away the bottle...
Are you giving milk or that next step type formula?
If you are giving milk, then the amount of milk shouldn't make DC hungrier or anything, milk is a drink, not a meal like formula is/was.
As for coming off the bottle, it is like a lot of things that it is just better to do it sooner before they form an attachement. After a while, it isn't good for their teeth either...

We are giving DD whole milk..it doesn't fill them up? How come it is diff. than formula, I would think milk fills their tummy no?

Sure it fills them up, but it isn't a meal, formula was a meal, it has added nutrients to it. Milk is simply, milk
For the first year, formula or BM is their primary source of nutrition, after a year or so, DC should start taking solid food and milk becomes a drink, just like water or juice

Re: Dumb ques. about taking away the bottle...
My DR wanted DS off the bottle by 15 months but I wasnt up for the challenge. SO I started at 18 months with the transistion and by 19.5 months he was bottle free and it was really easy which I never thought it would be because DS was very attached.
Anyway, one of my ped reasons was that prolonged bottle use has a bad effect on their teeth...at 18 months she said...unless you want large orthodontic bills, the bottle should go soon!
ETA: At 20 months I dont worry about the # of oz DS takes. HE gets a full sippy in the AM, sometimes he will drink it all but usually about 3/4. Sometimes thats all the milk he will drink, other days he will get another sippy full. But I also give him OJ with calcium, cheese and yogurt just to be sure he is getting a good amount of calcium.
