Dumb question - scheduled c-sections & labor?

If you have a scheduled c-section, do you still have to go through labor? Would they induce contractions?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I wasn't sure if the act of having contractions did anything to help shrink your uterus back to it's normal size or if it is only necessary to push the baby out.

I had a scheduled c section and I did not have to go into labor beforehand.
