Do you wash and then sterelize them? Do you sterelize them before each use?

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
generally, I hear you only need to sterilize them once... when you get them. after that, they only have to go on the top shelf of dishwasher with some dapple.....
I'm washing everything today, and boiling them once Scone comes home.

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
When my son was younger, I sterilized them after every use...I washed them first, then sterilized them...then I found out that could bring the BPA out in them...so I switched to the drop ins. But I did sterlize the nipples when he was very young as well.
I honestly can't remember when I stopped doing this, but I didnt do it longer than 3 months I dont think...

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
I never did. Only the first time.
Actually I lie. The first time I did, and then maybe 3-4 time s( once a week) for the first month and then I felt like washing was enough.
Now Im going to be using Playtex drop ins and I wont, becaus ethe drop in's are pre sterilized already.

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
I sterilized them before using them and then every couple of days for the first month or so. But I did not have a dishwasher, so it made me feel better to boil everything. My mom used to sterilize our bottles and nipples daily! I could not even imagine doing this

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
I only sterlized them once(thank God since they were not BPA free) and then hand washed them from then on. Our water heater used to be really high(pre-Grace Ok- Just realized I didn't even know you were pregnant! CONGRATS!!!!

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
I steralized the nipples for the 1st time and after that I washed them (when Hayley was using drop ins) and when I switched her to Dr Browns again, steralized for the 1st time then after that hand washed in soapy water.

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
Like the others have said, I just did it the initial time. Sterilized all parts (as well as all sippy cup parts, when she started using those) before the first use...then after, just throw them in the dishwasher.

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
I used glass bottles. I sterilised them before the first use, and then every week. I did sterilise the nipples once a day (all that I used that day).

Re: Dumb question about bottles...
You should sterilize them all before your first use. I hand wash them daily and at least 2-3 times a week I sterilize the nipples and other parts of the Dr. Brown's bottles. I don't usually sterilize the bottles though. Sometimes I will put them in the dishwasher (if I'm going to run it that day).
I only started doing the sterilizing so often because Jilli got a mild case of thrush.
