I don't think that is a dumb question. I really don't know the answer, but I'm guessing no.
ETA* I just remembered that while I was pregnant I always moved away from being directly in front of it while it was on. I was a little too cautious at times.

i've heard people talk about that before...dont know how true it is. i've also heard you shouldnt have too many wireless devices in your home when you have an infant - and that i heard from a MD

The problem isn't so much the microwave projecting anything harmful... its more what containers you use in the microwave that might let a chemical or substance seep into the food or drink you are heating up.
Certain plastics do this for sure....
Glass is best for microwaves.
