DVC rental - pros and cons?
Can anyone tell me how the DVC rentals work. I look very quick into it and it seems it may save me money doing this.
If it does how does it work? Looking for pros and cons to it.
Do I have to pay for everything up front; tickets, meal plans rooms?
Where do you go to rent them?

Re: DVC rental - pros and cons?
I go to Disney once a year and always rent points. We get to stay in a 1 bedroom Deluxe resort for the price of a regular moderate. You save a ton of $$
Once your reservation is secured, you have to pay in full for the room upfront, no refund but you can purchase insurance if you wanted through an outside company.
As far as tickets, you do that on your own and link through MDE. Meal plan can be purchased through the owner. Fast pass 60 days, dining, all work the same.
I always use Davids Vacation Club. Website is very easy to navigate and explain how the process works.
IMO it's the only way to go!!!!
Sorry wanted to add the cons.....you don't get turn over service everyday. They do now take garbage everyday which is fairly new, but as far as sheets, towels, actual cleaning it's on the 4th day unless you pay extra $$.

Re: DVC rental - pros and cons?
I'm an owner so have never rented from anyone, but I can answer some of your questions:
You have to pay upfront for the room and there are no changes. No playing around with the dates because your airfare is better if you leave a day earlier, no I'd like a different type of room or a different resort. The only thing you can change is the name on the reservation and the number of people in the room (as long as it fits within Disney's occupancy limits for that particular room type).
You will purchase tickets on your own which you will then link to your reservation in the MDE app.
Meal plans: you can pick what meal plan you'd like and you must pay for it advance. How far in advance is up to the owner you are renting from. The owner must make the call to have the meal plan added to your reservation - Disney will not talk to you since you are not an owner. All people in the room reservation must be on the same meal plan for the entire duration.
There is no free dining with DVC.
You have to book early! it is getting harder to book DVC rooms!

That is true and a good point. I book at the 11 month mark and sometimes even then have to move a few days around because of availability. DVC rooms book FAST!

Re: DVC rental - pros and cons?
The biggest con to me is zero changes allowed. But, I have purchased insurance in the past. I would do a "cancel for any reason" policy, not just a sick/weather, etc. policy.
I also am not a fan of no housekeeping until the 4th day. I like my room cleaned daily while I'm on vacation.

Re: DVC rental - pros and cons?
I won’t repeat the pros/cons of previous posters but my parents have DVC and I especially love the space in the 1 and 2 bedroom villas. There are full-sized kitchens and while I don’t believe in cooking while on vacation, we don’t want to waste time and money on a sit down breakfast every morning and so ordering grocery deliveries (tons of options like amazon prime now, garden grocers) makes sense. Quick bowl of Cheerios, frozen waffles, English muffins, and we are ready for the day. Also great quick lunches like pbj, grilled cheese, Ellios pizza for non park days or if you take a mid day break back at the resort, or just space to store snacks to bring to the park. We also like the washer and dryers in the room esp with little ones.
