Ear infection question

If your child has had one and went on antibiotics, did they stop pulling on their ears after a few days? I'm not sure if I should go to the doctor.

Background: Last Saturday he has a fever of 103.5, but that was it and it leveled out around 100-101. By Monday he was 98. But then he started shoving his fists in his ears. Wednesday he was diagnosed with a double ear infection.

He's been on antibiotics now for 5 days and is still shoving his fists in his ears. He has no other symptoms. Is this normal? TIA!

Re: Ear infection question

There could be fluid in the ears still and may cause them to pop or feel uncomfortable.
If there is no fever then there is no infection. I would not be to concerned, just make sure he finishes meds....

Re: Ear infection question

I have found that if working the antibiotic will help by the 3rd dose.

BUT it takes a while for the fluid to leave the ear so although your DC is starting to feel better they still need time for the antibiotic to work. So he could be pulling his ears.

I would wait the usual 10 days and have the Ped recheck his ears

Re: Ear infection question

My DD has had several ear infections. Typically once the fever is gone the infection should be gone as well. However there is often fluid left in the ear for a week or so after. My DD tends to pull on her ear several days after the fever has stopped.
