Re: Early induction due to size?????

I agree with Erica - my Dr said the same thing that if you are taller you are more likely tohave a bigger baby. Since I had two 10lb + babies and didn't have GD. I am 5"7 but my sister is 5'9 and my mom was 5'10 +

I did deliver both vaginally and without any problems.

My doctor wouldn't even consider inducing due to size. And I was happy about that.

Re: Early induction due to size?????

Just want to warn you those sonos can be way off. My cousin was given a C-setion because her baby "was so huge." That huge baby came out 6 lbs 5 ounces. Ooops!

I have heard so many similar stories that there is no way I would ever agree to a C-section or an induction because a sono said "big baby."

ETA: My midwives won't even do late term sonos for size bacause they are so inaccurate and cause so much worry -- they said they could feel more using their hands than relying on the sonos. And they were right. I asked my midwife how big she thought DS would be and she said about 7 1/2 pounds. He was 7 lbs 5 ouncs when he was born.

Re: Early induction due to size?????

i delivered a big baby with my first and she was 9 13. they said she was going to be 8 lbs. im not a tall person- 5'2 and was able to push out a big baby. i wouldnt push for a c section or to be induced unless its medically necessary because they can be wrong about size and you dont want to run into complications.

Re: Early induction due to size?????

I had a csection scheduled because of the size of my baby.

I was caught off guard at first, tried to fight it, then the dr told me its his job to keep me and the baby safe.

I had josh on my due date, he was 9.7

Re: Early induction due to size?????

I had a very large baby!!!! Babies are known by their gestational age, not size. When DS was measuring at 8 pounds 12 ounces at my 34 week growth sono all the questions began. "Why are you waiting to have him?" 'Why can't the doctor take him out now?" My doctors said just because he was big, it didn't mean he was developed. I was told to be ready for a c-section due to other issues, not his size. (No, I did not have GD) But they said they would not even think of doing a scheduled c-section until my 39th week.

Well, baby and I kept growing. I went in for a growth sono and ready to schedule my c-section for my 39th week when the doctor came in and said "well, we are sending you to the hospital now for delivery" I was only 38 weeks!!!!!! Baby wanted out.

I gave birth to an 11 pound 8 oz baby, 22 1/2 inches long. And he was still in the NICU for days after delivery. He wasn't fully developed yet. But according to many people he was ready to eat steak. Chat Icon

Re: Early induction due to size?????

I was told this as well, but DD was born ON her due date and I was not taken in early. She was born a healthy 8 lbs, 10 oz which was fine Chat Icon

Re: Early induction due to size?????

I was induced one week early because I had GD and they thought DD was going to be big. I ended up with a csection anyway after 48 hours of "labor" (didn't feel any strong contractions thank God). Inductions have higher rates of ending up with c-sections anyway and DD only ended up being 7lbs 5oz so the growth sonos were off. Personally I wouldn't want to be induced before my DD if it wasn't absolutely necessary especially if you dont' want to end up with a c-section.
