I am upset by this. Who knew that you would have to continually update yourself on grammar.

I thought grammar was a constant.

I need a new blue book of grammar and punctuation.............. Chat Icon

I am going to the Jones' house is how I would write it.

thats how I would have written it too.
How come it is incorrect?

Just convention.

A possessive ending in S always gets a second S

unless it has and "iz" sound

Moses', not Moses's

and an exception is always made for Jesus. It's Jesus' disciples, not Jesus's disciples.

Weird, right?

I thought it was only the singular possessive ending in "s" gets the 's after it:

I am going to James's house.
I am going to the Jones' house.

I was actually taught that it was gramatically correct to say "red, white, and blue" OR "red, white and blue" and that it was a matter of preference

I was always taught to put he comma before the "and" so I always do it. And it bugs me when it's not there. Chat Icon
