Eating dinner w/ infants
Do you and DH have any chance to sit down together to eat dinner? I'm finding it so hard to have dinner with him. First off... it's hard to make dinner so lately it's easy, quick meals, take out or we BBQ. I guess Mason's "witching" hour is between 6 and 7 and sometimes to 8. We either take turns eating if it's just the two of us or we get lucky and Mason is napping or content in his bouncy. Any advice? Anyone else have the same issue?

Re: Eating dinner w/ infants
When Jacen was a newborn, we often ate dinner while he was in his rocker- on top of the table. But then around 6 or 7 weeks, we realized that his witching hour (6-7pm) was actually his way of telling us he was ready for bed for the night. So we started putting him down by 6:30pm and ate after.
Even now at 12 1/2 months old, we usually eat dinner after Jacen goes to bed (6:30-7:30 depending on last nap). Unless my husband is working midnights, then we eat dinner with ds in his high chair around 6pm.

Dh and I did the same thing with dc was a newborn - we took turns eating. Evil MIL made a lot of meals for us in the beginning, actually really nice of her and out of context, and we'd just reheat. Now, he works nights and we eat meals together on weekends. I eat with dc, and feed the dogs at the same time. It's *almost* like a family dinner, lol!

Re: Eating dinner w/ infants
since dave works until 9 three days a week - we don't do dinner until then - so normally Emma is just having a bottle or is still sleeping from her last feeding.....so we're lucky that way. when he's NOT at work - we try to plan dinner around when we WILL be able to eat...
in other words - if she's going to want food around 6 - we won't plan to eat until 7:30...to give plenty of time for the feeding, bottle and playtime after...

Re: Eating dinner w/ infants
It was so difficult in the beginning. We would be eating while they were crying, trying to hold them and eat at the same time. I would eat so fast that I didn't even know I was eating.
Then we started putting them to bed BEFORE we ate. Best decision we ever made!

I was actually thinking something similar to this...my DD goes to bed sometime between 6-7. She's always gotten cranky around this time and off to bed she goes! If she was awake when we ate (as a tiny newborn), we would put her in the bouncy seat or swing.

In the beginning we would switch off because it was Chloe's "witching hour". We figured out she just needed to go to bed earlier. She is in bed and sleeping by 7, so we eat after now.
