Sort of. I consider it more of disordered eating. I get severe cravings for various foods, which ofcourse goes against my desire for thinness. So, I'm constantly going between dieting and complusive eating. It's this way because if I ate what I wanted I'd be very overweight.
I'm really happy to see, though, that most girls have a healthy relationship with food.
I'm the same way. I have sought therapy, read books, tried differents diets and programs but it's still a battle I fight every day. It's tiring to have such a distorted relationship with food. I am trying so hard to get better though because I do not want my daughter to grow up the way I did using food for all the wrong reasons, then being overweight and having bad body imaging and then eating even more because you hate yourself. It's a terrible cycle.
I have the same problem. I attend weight watchers and probably always will because it is the only way I can keep myself in control . . .

Re: Eating Disorders
I lived with anorexia for many years and finally received help for it from a therapist and nutritionist. I still battle with major food issues. I probably need to seek help for my issues still because I have a hard time losing weight in a healthy way and while I no longer starve myself to lose weight, I definitely am destructive with my weight and my diet.

Re: Eating Disorders
I don't have one. I can see how it would be possible to get carried away and find yourself in a bad place though. My SIL and many good friends had them.

Re: Eating Disorders
I don't have an eating disorder but I definitely have an unhealthy relationship with food. For the most part, I eat "normally" (relatively healthy but I splurge too) My issues surround my thoughts about food, and the guilt and shame associated with eating. I have a battle in my mind, ultimately I would feel too guilty to binge, too guilty to purge, and too resentful to starve so I don't act on anything but I ruminate over every bite!

I would describe myself in that way... I no longer classify myself as anorexic, but rather disordered eating.

I'm an avid poster on here. I'm sorry I can't say who I am, but I suffer from bulimia. It's so hard to live in a world where everything revolves around the way you look. People are always judging you. Society really loves the beautiful people.
It starts out you just want to lose a few pounds or whatever. They next thing you know it's an obsession. Everytime you put something in your mouth, you think, OMG how am I going to get it out. If I don't I'm going to be fat. Nobody wants to be fat. So the purging and laxatives begin. My mother always cared about my weight and harped and harped on me. "You're gaining weight, you look fat..blah blah blah" Now, I struggle with food. Every meal and snack and drink is a painful decision.
fm me if you need to talk

I feel the exact same way as you girls. Although psychological things can be involved for many people, I really believe that if I had a high metabolism I would not have disordered eating and feel bad about it all the time.

Re: Eating Disorders
I never have.
I have a SIL (early 40's) who is recovering anorexic from high school. From what I've been told she was never frighteningly bad with major medical issues but bad enough.
She definitely has OCD in her personality and I think her anoerxia was her way of controlling her life. She is still thin and when she is stressed her DH has to remeind her to eat. For the most part she is recovered but from what I have been told, it's like any other recovery, you are never 100% cured, you just need to manage it.

Re: Eating Disorders
I don't, but my cousin does. She is in her early 20's and has had anorexia for about 6 years. She was so thin and frail that I would get upset everytime I saw her. She has had treatment, starting to maintain a healthy weight, and starting a friendship with (healthy) food again. My best friends mother also died from anorexia. My friend and her siblings were only in elementary school and watched their mother go through this.

Re: Eating Disorders
I definitely have an unhealthy relationship with food. In the past, I have gone through periods where I would eat less than 300 calories a day, just eat pretzels, things like that.
I definitely have a problem with compulsive overeating. I also have some health issues that caused me to gain a lot of weight, make it difficult to lose weight, and according to my doctors, make me hungrier.
It's a daily struggle and I feel like I've been on a zillion different diets - diets which used to work, and are not really working anymore.

Re: Eating Disorders
Yes, i've struggled with one for over 15 years. I started really early and I have a very distorted body image. I have sought treatment, but alot of places wouldn't take me b/c I was too far gone! I live with it every day of my life and probably will for the rest of my life. It stinks! It really is all consuming, but I have no control over it.

Re: Eating Disorders
i used to be bullemic. took ipecac and dropped to about 85 lbs (i am 5' 2"). i never saw a therapist nor spoke to anyome about my problem. it was pretty obvious so i really did not need to tell those close to me.
although i no longer binge and purge, i still FEAR gaining weight and i am careful not to overeat. i am trying to will myself to see a nutrionist but afraid at how much food they are going to tell me i have to eat. i think i look totally healthy (96 - 98 lbs) but am constantly told that i am too petite.

Re: Eating Disorders
I'm so sad to see that some ladies here are living with Anorexia and Bulemia. To those of you who are still struggling with issues eating or with body-image, PLEASE give it another try to seek help. If treatment didn't help in the past, it could just be that you didn't have the right therapist or regimen.
I had been extremely sick with Anorexia for so long that I got to the point where I couldn't take it mentally or physically. I signed myself in to a psychiatric hospital and stayed there for 1 month on major meds, so much that I couldn't even move in bed. That obviously wasn't working so I moved to another facility that had exactly the right approach to treating my illness.
Thanks to the patience from the medical staff, an amazing doctor, therapist and social worker, I was discharged after 5 months when I finally got my period back and was no longer considered clinically anorexic.
Then, I attended a daily out-patient group theraphy for another month. That focused on me dealing with food and a life that didn't revolve around it.
Please, please, please, don't continue to live with this deamon. I lost a few of the best years of my life and have very vague memories from that time. I will be happy to provide support to anyone who feels like they can't take the steps necessary to get help.
Please FM me if I can help

Re: Eating Disorders
I don't have one, but I don't have a healthy relationship with food either. I know I have used it as a crutch in the past, especially during stressful/unhappy times.

There's a heartbreaking documentary on HBO about an eating disorder rehab center. I was thoroughly depressed after watching it these young women.
I don't have a disorder.
I watched this too and it was heartbreaking
I don't have one. I love food WAY too much
