Eating out and regrets

Does anyone else, after they eat out somewhere, often feel like "Damn, why did I just spend this money..........I could've cooked the same thing at home and it would've been BETTER!".

I know there are definitely exceptions but the stupid $40.00 we just spent at the diner...........I am Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

all the time!!

That is why I prefer to cook now more often. We usually only go out when we want something I do not usually cook or on special occasions. I don't want to pay the price for food that I can make better for half the cost!!

Re: Eating out and regrets

Yes! I've defintely had regrets after eating out. We're trying very hard not to eat out to save money now. I actually dont mind at all. I can make my food, the way I want it for less than half the price.

Re: Eating out and regrets

Yes!
Not because I think I could make it better, because I'm not a good cook at all.
Just that I feel like when I go out to eat, it all adds up so quickly and I usually end up feeling like I didn't get all that much for the money I spent.
I'll think to myself, I should have just made us a salad or sandwiches at home!

Alllll the time!!! Everything is so overpriced, the quality sucks, and I'm never satisfied. What I hate more is how I feel so gross after eating out - DH & I got Mexican take out last night from a place we've never tried before. Never again!!!

Yes! If it is something that I can make at home I always regret. If it is something I can't make (sushi) I am fine with it.

Mostly when the service is bad. I can easily eat at home but enjoy the ease of going out. If the service sux it becomes an annoying experience.

All the time. Casual mediocre-quality food like Applebees, especially with 2 kids ordering meals easily comes to $35-40. Kid's meals are a huge ripoff-- $4.50 for junky Kraft Mac n Cheese and a milk container! Soda prices at restaurants are ridiculous too, especially when you can buy a 2 liter bottle for $1 on sale at the supermarket.

Re: Eating out and regrets

Yep, very often.Chat Icon But the main reason why we go out to eat occasionally vs. me cooking dinner is that I enjoy hanging out with DH some place other than home. But yes, I do regret it quite often. I do try to find coupons to certain restaurants when I go out though, so I dont feel too bad.Chat Icon

Re: Eating out and regrets

yes definitely. DH and I talk about this all the time. We have finally decided that we are only going to go out maybe once a month and make it somewhere good instead of going out multiple times to various diners, chains etc.

Re: Eating out and regrets

yes...the only time we go out to eat now is for special occasions (and then i take advantage and go to a really nice restaurant!!) other than that we only take out occasionally and its for greek (never tastes the same if i make it!) and pizza when we get tired of making it at home.

Re: Eating out and regrets

NEVER - I hate to cook, and I hate taking the time to clean everything up after I make a mess cooking ...and we don't get home until late every night so it's always a rush -

When we go out, we get to sit down, talk to each other etc etc ........

Re: Eating out and regrets

yes. My DH loves eating out. I do too to an extent. But I am honestly sick of eating out and would rather spend the money on really good ingrediants and make a great meal at home.

We almost went to Besito for dinner Saturday night but we picked another Mexican place in Huntington. I wish we had gone there!

Re: Eating out and regrets

Yes! I have learned to make many of my "restaurant favorite" meals at home. I think I can do a much better job, it costs less, and I can control what ingredients I use to cook the food.

At this point, I go out for fine dining for things I can't make at home/have not tried to make at home/are extremely labor intensive. The more casual food I make myself.

Re: Eating out and regrets

When DH and I used to eat out often, no matter how price conscious I tried to be the bill would always be higher than I had anticipated. I used to think diners were really cheap, but the bill always boggles my mind! Now that we don't eat out as often, we splurge and go all out when we do eat out. No more regrets.

Also, even though we buy Groupons to certain restaurants, I feel like we end up spending more because we know we have a coupon. I don't know if that makes any sense Chat Icon
