eating solids too fast?

we just started solids about 2 weeks ago. it seems that ds has his mouth open wide right after i shovel the spoon in for the next one. he even starts whining when i don't get the food in fast enough!

is it bad to feed them as fast as they want to eat? should i slow him down even though he gets pissy?

also, if they finish their food, do you offer more? ds always lets me know when he's had enough but sometimes he'll eat the entire thing and i don't usually offer more, should i?

Oh Wow your DS sounds exactly like mine when it come to eating!!

We just started giving him cereal and he can't get enough. The minute I finish giving one spoonfull he is ready for the next, and he gets grumpy and grunts if I don't get him the next one fast enough.

I think he is use to the "instant, constant flow " of food fromthe bottle, so I am trying to slow him down a bit so that he learns to pace himself.

He also finishes every last bite, but I don't offer him more, I know he would eat it if I did, but since we just started I don't want to overwhelm his little digestive system.

We're in the exact same situation.

I try to slow him down by entertaining him between bites, and trying to get him to laugh and smile - incorporating fun into eating.

I also don't offer him more after he finishes. I don't want to put too much solid food in his system since he's only been eating it for a couple weeks.

It gets better - that is how it was in the beginning for us too. I couldn't get the spoon in fast enough. After a while you will be trying to get their attention to open their mouth!
