Eats something at home, not at daycare

Anyone else have this problem?

Today, my babysitter says to me, "He really struggles with your food"
Chat Icon

I say, the hot food I make?

She says, no, everything. The PB& J sandwiches, ham & cheese (things he devours at home)

How is that possible? I never send him with anything he doesn't eat at home.

Does anyone else experience this w/ their kids?
Any tips?

I don't know. My kid is the TOTAL opposite. Will eat like a champ at daycare. I could put the same thing on her highchair at home and it's like hot lava!!!

is she making/eating something else?

maybe he sees what she is eating and wants that.

luce is that way. he'll eat food with me no problem but with my MIL he wants what she has and then she tells me he doesn't like my food. Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS is this way a lot too. And even for MIL when she watches him - will eat everything but I try it and he drops it off the tray.Chat Icon

Are they giving him too many bottles/liqud filling him up ?

Daycare told me for a while that DD wasn't that good of an eater, she mostly plays with the food. Which wasnt the case at home.

When I reviewed the food schedule I saw they were giving a meal, then a bottle a little while after. So she probably wasnt hungry when the meal came.

Ds is completely opposite. He eats MORE for dc than he does home. Burgers, fruit, veggies. Makes me nuts.

By struggles - she means gives them a hard time.
She is offering him options other than what I make - which sort of annoys me, because obviously he'll want to go for that.

He will eat his fruit/yogurt that I send.

IDK - just thought it was wierd.

could it be the way she is offering it. Some kids are really particular and if it's not how mommy does it..they wont eat it. KWIM

ETA: is she heating it up like you do? presenting it to him like you would?

Abby was the opposite - total social/behavioral eater. Ate EVERYthing in day care and still eats nothing at home. This is one of the reasons why it will be good for her to go back (she's starting next week). She will get more nutrition.

Baby Peer Pressure.

Up until recently I would send food into daycare. I was told the same thing. While everyone was eating chicken nuggets he didn't want his grilled chicken. They would have pizza and again he wanted what they had. The same if they had applesauce and DS had another fruit, applesauce is his favorite, he wanted what they had. I basically had to stop sending in food when he got to the Twaddler room. He eats much better now.

Re: Eats something at home, not at daycare

When ds was in daycare we had the same problem. I thought maybe it was their food so i started making food and sending it to daycare.. He refused to eat that too which really didnt make sense. Once he got home from daycare he was like a starving madbaby

No explanation.. days he wasnt in daycare he ate teh same time i would tell them to feed him there..

eta: i agree with pp said - maybe its the way they gave it to him.. thats the only explanation i could come up with .,. When my mother has watched him its like when hes with me - eats like a champ
