EBF baby with bottle issues....HELP!!!
i'm sorry this is so long but i don't know what else to do!!!
i think for the most part...i have pretty easy 3 month old happy and cute as can be DD. My only constant struggle is trying to give her a bottle of breast milk. I tried feeding her, my DH has tried feeding her...my MIL and mom when we have gone out...and its a horrible experience for EVERYONE involved. All she does is cry and scream like someone is hurting her.
We have tried different bottles, nipples size shapes and flow....one day she will take a bottle without a problem and i get super happy...and other times like tonight my MIL called us to come home because she had been crying hysterical for 15 minutes and there was nothing she could do to calm her down. Luckily we were down the block when she called and as soon as my DD heard my voice she calmed down. So i breastfed her...and mid way, once she calmed down i took her off the boob and gave her a bottle which she drank.
So...my question...
Is it totally bad if i BF her for a little while and then give her a bottle so she can get used to it? or do you think that if i do this she is NEVER going to take a bottle unless i BF her first?
Any suggestions? I am at a loss. I need to be able to leave the house and have a life without having to worry about whether or not she is eating and hysterical. i have a huge supply of frozen BM (that I have just been wasting because she never takes a bottle and i always have to throw the milk out) and wonderful babysitters always wanting and available to come over to watch DD..but i rarely feel ok to go out because i worry too much...and I AM SO NOT A WORRY WART...so i feel so out of my element. Plus i go back to work in June...she needs to be able to take bottles by then or else she is going to drive my mom crazy.
HELP!!!!!

Have you tried the Tommee Tippee bottles? They are the only bottles my DS will take, otherwise the nipple confusion is just horrible.

When you are home, I would try to give her the bottle every once in a while without offering the breast first. I remember walking around my apartment with DD screaming and me trying to get her to take it. I was going back to work, so I HAD to. And she was bottle fed a million times before, but I went thru a period of about 2-3 weeks that I didn't give her a bottle and totally ruined it. There were times I gave in. But I think offer her the bottle first. And give her 1 or 2 a day to keep her used to it.

I totally could've written you post right down to the DH is going to kill me part!
I tried to feed DS, DH did, my mom kept saying she would be able to get him to take it. Tried, he wouldn't. She insisted it was the bottle. Went out bought another, he wouldn't take it.
I tried all kinds of sippy cups and trainer cups with soft spouts. I would fill them with water and let him play with them so that he could get used to the idea and the feel of them. He would put them in his mouth, but wouldn't actually suck. In the end, I'm not sure what worked, but he miraculously started taking a bottle (even with formula in it!) a few weeks after we started solids. I think maybe the solids got him used to different tastes and textures in his mouth? Now at 7 months, I give him at least one bottle of formula a day.
Have you tried a sippy or even a regular cup? Some babies go right from breast to cup. The Tommee Tippee is the one that works for us too. Although I was having some success with a NUK bottle (do we have those in the states? it was bought in the UK).
Good luck!
