EBF mom & starting solids
So I know that at DD's 4 month checkup, the ped is going to give me the OK to start cereal & then purees. I started my older DD at 4 months. I really feel like it messed with my milk supply too early. This time I think I am going to wait until the baby is between 5 & 6 months before starting solids.
What are your thoughts on starting solids?

Re: EBF mom & starting solids
i started all my kids who were EBF around 5.5 months and only 1 meal a day for about a month then 2 meals for a month, then 3 meals a month after that! It is still only supposed to be in addition to what they already drink so it shouldnt replace any feedings...

Re: EBF mom & starting solids
I'm not 100% sure why peds recommend cereal before 6 months - the AAP recommends exclusively BF or FF until 6 months and then starting some foods. I don't think there's anything wrong with waiting. I started my DS at around 5 months but I always offered to BF first, the food was for experimenting, not nurishment (just my opinion). At over 2 he's a great eater (may not be related at all, but that was my experience). I hope that's helpful.
Also - this was not the recommendation of my ped, she recommended cereal at 4 months and to do the food first and BF after - I didn't follow that advice.

I agree 100%. It will definitely mess with your supply! I EBFed and didn't start solids until about 7-8 months old. I skipped cereal and went straight to oatmeal and fruits.

Re: EBF mom & starting solids
I did not BF but my sister does and she waited to feed her DS solids until 5.5 months.
Our sons are 30 days apart and I started at 4mons so my DS started before hers. Its a personal decision. You can start anytime. My ped jsut said look for when they are ready....
She did not have an issue with supply once she did start feeding.

Thanks ladies! With my older DD, I always fed her first and then gave her whatever food I was feeding, so defiinitely plan to do that this time. I am just going to wait a while before starting.

Re: EBF mom & starting solids
With my first son, we intended to wait until 6 months, but at his 4 month visit, he had a major drop on the weight chart. So upon our ped's recommendation, we started him on oatmeal. We still waited until 6 months for purees though. My second son turned 6 months last Sunday and we have not started yet. We have his well visit next week and will likely start after that. Our ped urges people to wait until 6 months anyway, unless there is an issue. The AAP recommends waiting until 6 months.
