EBF moms and milk allergies
How did you realize that your dc had a milk allergy? My ds is gassy all the time and it's making him so fussy, he literally cried the whole weekend, nothing would console him. Last night we went out to buy little tummies gas drops and put it into pumped bottles and so far today he is good. Could all this gas be coming from something I'm eating? Could it be from milk? Should I start cutting certain things out from my diet? Please help, I don't even know where to start

Re: EBF moms and milk allergies
It soundsa like your describing my exact child. My DD was SOOO fussy and I wouldnt know why... nothing would help, then boom.. I would hear her pass gas like a grown man. I went to the Dr. and she suggested gripe water or mylicon.
I started with the little tummies gas drops and ehh, it wasnt really doing anything, she still had really bad gas pains. Then I tried mylicon, I would say that helped a bit more.
She was still so fussy though and I didnt like the idea that I was that dependant on the mylicon at almost ever feeding! I went back to the Dr. and she suggested that I cut out dairy completely (she suspected a milk protien allergy). I havent had any dairy whatsoever for 2 weeks now and I can honestly say I see a big difference. She is nearly as fussy and she has much LESS gas, when she DOES have gas she seems to pass it with less pain. ( I havent had to use any mylicon thats how much of a difference there is).
So 2 days ago I decided to reintroduce a little dairy and see what happened... well I ate greek yogurt and then had a crepe with lots of chocolate. Within the next 24 hrs. my baby was back to her old self... so gassy and she was hysterical screaming. I dont think it was a coinsidense (sp?).. I think it was because of the dairy I had (which stinks because this no dairy thing is so so so hard).
Anyway, Im back to eating dairy free for now... Im planning on getting her to a Pediatric gastro Dr. upon the recommendation of ladies on here so we can get her stool tested to find out a definite answer if she is allergic to the milk protein or not.
Dr. also told me if its not a milk allergy to just avoid foods that can make her gassy such as: -Green leafy vegetables -Cucumber -broccoli, cauliflower -strawberries, grapes
Goodluck!

Re: EBF moms and milk allergies
My DD is EBF with a milk allergy. She had blood and mucous in her poop which is how she was diagnosed.
You can try to eliminate dairy and see if that helps. Also caffeine, onions, broccoli, garlic are god ones to get rid of to see if it helps. Cut back on soy and soy by products too.
If you are concerned about a true milk allergy, ask for a poop diaper to be tested for blood.

cut out garlic and soy by products? all we eat is Italian and it seems like everything has soy by products in it. what kind of foods do you eat?

Soy is very hard. Garlic can cause gas, but not in all babies. My baby is fine with all of the "gas producing" foods, but I don't eat dairy, dairy by products, soy, soy by products, nuts, seafood and for awhile, eggs.
It was so hard at first, but after awhile it got easy. Now I am so used to it (DD is 7 months) that it is second nature.
I eat a lot of grilled chicken, steak, salad, potatoes, pasta, rice.
I make everything from scratch now and I do a lot of organic and natural foods.
As for Italian, you can make your own sauce, meatballs with no dairy, sausage with no dairy or soy (I find good chicken sausage in the supermarket-just read ingredients).
I know Whole Foods, Wild By Nature and a few other places have a ton of products that you can use in lieu of those you eliminate.
I would try to get rid of the dairy too. Remember, it can take a month to get out of your system but you should see some results right away.
Good luck and feel free to FM me with any questions.
