EBF Moms another question...pumping
All of a sudden I cannot for the life of me get my pump to let my milk down! I was pumping daily, so DH could give a bottle or so I had some wiggle room to go to events etc. Now I am just getting the tiny bit of milk before letdown.
Baby is content when eating and afterwards and I feel letdown when he nurses....has this happened to anyone else? I really don't want to endup supplementing

I'm not sure I understand...
You're not having a letdown at all when you pump?
Which pump are you using? What setting?
How much milk are you getting? When are you pumping in relation to feedings?

Re: EBF Moms another question...pumping
agree with PPer with all questions!!!
--how long are you pumping for!?!? i would at least do 20 min --and how old is your baby ? many moms think their supply is decreasing a month or two in but it is really just your body regulating making just enough for your baby based on amt of times you nurse. --also are you letting the pump do all the work? bec that never worked for me! The baby is sooo much better than the pump so you have to help the pump...massage and breast compress - I did this the whole 20 min taking turns on each breast! this helps get out more milk!

Check the cycle (it should be fastest for a let down) and suction-I noticed I needed to play around with it.

Re: EBF Moms another question...pumping
That happened to me a few times when I BF my kids. It's so frustrating. I was told that when you're stressed out it can keep your milk from "letting down". You have to make sure you're relaxed. There were times when it didn't happen and I had to go without the milk for that "session" and use other frozen milk. The bad thing for me was that it was one of the main feeding supplies when it happened. I was at work and all of the milk I pumped that day was for all of the feedings the next day so if I couldn't get any milk to come out I was scr@wed!

Re: EBF Moms another question...pumping
I am using the medela pump n style and then i went out and rented the medela symphony b/c i thought maybe it was my pump. I can't get milk to let down with either one - thing is, I have been successfully pumping since y son was 4 weeks old . he is 4 months old now.
i used to pump in the morning after a feeding and get 4 oz. then i would pump at 11pm when he was sleeping and get 2 or 3. now i get barely anything at either time.

I personally found that my let was better when I pumped looking at his picture! I could more easily "envision" him, so my letdown was better. I found I only needed to do this at work when I pumped. At home no issue.

have you tried massaging the breast prior to pumping - sometimes i need to do this to help the pump work better

Re: EBF Moms another question...pumping
Are you possibly nearing the time of your period? When my son was about 10 months, I did start havinr real issues letting down for the pump, however, prior to that I would only have a problem a couple of days before AF made an appearance. It went back to normal after her arrival.

Re: EBF Moms another question...pumping
It's happened to me before also, I had to feed him to release the pressure. I realized later that I was cold and my milk doesn't flow as well when I'm cold.
