EBF moms at 5 months
Do you feed at night? My husband has been told by his co workers he shouldn't be feed at night. because he is waking up just to have a snack. Wouldn't you get up for a ice cream sundae is his analogy. I disagree. What do you think/
TIA

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
I ALWAYS did and still do at 9 months old. He's either hungry, thirsty, or just needs to have some snuggle time with mommy!!

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
DD was always still feeding at least once during the night at 5 months. If she hadn't started STTN by herself around 6 months I probably still would have been feeding her.

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
my dd was still getting up to nurse at 5 months, but i will tell you what my ped told me..that by 3 months of age, and over 12 lbs..babies NO LONGER physiologically NEED to eat in the middle of the nite..its more of a habit at that point..i definately believe it, but it was hard to make happen i had to stop nursing soon after that point anyway, but we ended up doing CIO at 6 months, and she hasnt eaten in the nite since.

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
DS "STTN" for the most part... For the past two weeks or so, he was fussing in the middle of the night and I'd feed him. My mom suggested (not insistantly, just suggested because I was tired) that he may not be hungry and just needed to be rocked to sleep. That night when he fussed, I repositioned him back to the middle (he's a creeper in bed) of the crib. Re-binked, lovied and shushed him back to sleep and in a second he was out again (and spit the binky out.. he sucks for just a second and passes out). Had to do that the next couple of nights and he's back to STTN.

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
I was told by the Ped that, by around 4 months, baby should be sleeping at least one 6 hour stretch. And that, by 6 months, baby should be sleeping a good 8-10 hour stretch.
Yael sleeps 12 hours a night, but wakes up usually at the 8 hour mark for a nibble. I asked her if I can assume, at 4 months, that she's not hungry but just waking out of habit, and she said she wouldn't recommend getting rid of the wake up until she's a little older, around 6 months

Re: EBF moms at 5 months
You know your baby, not your co-workers. Some babies still need to eat in the middle of the night at that age. DS was still waking 2 or 3 times to nurse at 5 months. He dropped down to waking up once per night at 6 months and started STTN at 7 months. I always fed on demand and knew he was waking b/c of hunger. He wouldn't take a pacifier, which he loves, and would scream until I nursed him.
I don't buy the not feeding a baby at night just b/c he or she has reached a certain weight or age. All babies are different. Some wake out of habit, but others wake out of hunger. You can try giving a pacifier, but if your DC is hungry, I'd BF.

Did his Co workers even Breast feed
Perfectly fine to Breast Feed in the middle of the night at any age, there is no set rule... You know what your child needs
