EBF Moms- Poop question
How often does your baby poop? I have a 4 month old who used to poop daily and that has changed. He went sat, mon and now I am STILL waiting....called ped and dr said that EBF babies can't be constipated but I am still concerned...
anyone have any experience with this?

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
DD pooped several times a day until about 4 months - then she only pooped about 1-2x a day. Now that we started solids, sometimes she poops every other day.
I read somewhere that once they poop at least once a week, then they are okay.
ETA: Does your baby seem uncomfortable? Sometimes we do bicycle legs and I rub her belly and that helps her poop.

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
It really seems to vary. My DD is 5 months and when she was a newborn, she was pooping multiple times a day.
Now it's like a roller coaster... 2 times one day, none the next, 1 time the next day, 2 days without poop. There's really no rhyme or reason to it.

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
My DS pooped several times a day until he started solids at 6 months. I remember reading that BF babies can go a long time without pooping and it's not considered constipation. Does your baby seem uncomfortable?

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
DD pooped a lot in the beginning and around 4 months she went days w/o pooping, the resume the multiple poops a day for a while, than 1x a day. We still never know what we are going to get. She likes to keep us on our toes
I worried too, but she is fine. hth

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
My son will be 4 months next week and I am EBF. He always used to poop 2-4 times a day. Now he's day to 1, maybe 2 a day. I remembered from the BF class I took though, that they can go as long as 4 days without poop. Past that, you should check with your ped, but up to 4 is fine.

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
As babies become older, they become better at digesting BM and poop less often. BF babies can go up to a week without pooping. There were several times when DS didn't poop for 5 days.

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
BF babies can go a week without pooping and be fine. DS is supplemented and he goes 1 a day, I was super worried because the day before he went 4 times. Ped said its normal and ok.

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
I had the same thing happen. DS went from going several times a day to not going for 4 days and I called the ped all nervous he said on the 5th day I could do the Q-tip trick, which i did and that its very normal for babies who are EBF to go every 3-4 days and sometimes 5, bc since everything we are giving them is nutrician they absorb it and still have to learn to push it out rather then the body to explode it out ( my DS had explosions before that).
Then he only went every 2-3 days until he started his ceral and veggies/fruits now we are back to once a day!
The Q-tip trick: take a Q-tip with vaseline and stick it in and out of their but and twist as you do it. after a few times it will come pouring out!! (And will smell bad) but after that first time we never did it again. The Dr said only use it if its necessary bc its better then an enima.
He also said we could give him a bottle of 2-3 ounces of water which would help too!

Re: EBF Moms- Poop question
it's totally normal as long as they don't seem uncomfortable or bothered by it (exact words from the ped). DS pooped multiple times a day from birth-8 weeks and then from 8 weeks - 6 months old he pooped every 6th day, like clockwork, same time of day, too! He never seemed bothered by it and never had problems getting it out. The ped said that just like adults, every baby has a different system. I have 2 friends that also EBF and their kids poop everyday.
