Egg quality question

I may sound completley ignorant here, especially for someone ttc for over a year but if we are born with all our eggs how can we change the quality of them?

I'm so confused. I know for men they are always making new sperm so they can do things to improve the quality of the new ones but how does this work for women?

Re: Egg quality question

woman are born with all of the eggs they have. as we age the egg quality naturally deteriorates until we eventually go through menopause. during the egg maturation process, when the body recruits eggs that develop in follicles, if the hormone levels are out whack (lets say from PCOS or from high FSH) the egg itself doesn't necessarily mature properly in the follicle, which causes poor egg quality. by reregulating hormones and adding supplements, we can effect the way the eggs mature in the follicles and thus improve egg quality. however, the older we get, as the eggs get older, if the quality is very poor prior to follicular development, it lessens the chances that anything we do to improve egg quality will be effective. its harder to fix poor egg quality due to high FSH or naturally poor eggs than it is to fix egg quality that becomes compromised due to abnormal hormonal levels during the follicular phase.

Re: Egg quality question

Ok, that makes sense! Thanks so much for explaining.

So what are the supplements that can be taken to help with egg quality?

well you would know better than me since its not my issue.
from what i have read (i read a lot Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ) you can combat high FSH at both stages but lowering the levels from the start produces better eggs than waiting for the follicular phase. im no doctor though so I can DEF be wrong there!!

I know....I've read a lot about this whole egg quality thing and how it relates to FSH and it's very controversial Chat Icon Dr B and Dr Davis have both told me that high FSH doesn't necessarily mean poor egg quality, but it also makes it likely. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
