electric fireplace
Does anyone have one? Are they nice ...or cheesy?
ETA- Would it look ridiculous given their small size in a room with extremly high vaulted ceilings?

Re: electric fireplace
I LOVE the look of them! Since we do not have a fireplace in our livingroom, I really want to get one when we redo the room. But with electric rates so high, I was thinking of looking at the gel fireplaces.

Re: electric fireplace
Dh bought me one for xmas. We live in an apartment. We dont pay for electric. For an apartment its nice, but for a house i think its kinda cheepy looking. Especially with high ceilings, its gonna look weird.

Re: electric fireplace
I had one this winter by Vermont Castings and had to return it twice because it broke. We decided not to bother with another one. It looked good and we had it in our den. If you put one in a room with high ceilings, you would probably need something above it like a picture or mirror.

Re: electric fireplace
Fortunoffs had some nice ones too.
The gel fireplaces are cool. They use gel fule (like what you use to heat up food?).

Re: electric fireplace
My parents have one in their new house & I LOVE it. I told DH that I want to get one for our living room for the "extra" ambience plus it gives off some nice heat.

Re: electric fireplace
We have vaulted ceilings in our bedroom and put in a gel fireplace across from our bed. It turned out really well! We debated between an electric one and a gel fuel one...we ultimately went with the gel one because it was nice to have real flames (although they came out of cans- hidden behind the fake log). Our only complaint with the gel one is that the fuel cans initially let off a weird smell, but I guess we had to break the fireplace in...
