Re: Electric Stoves
I like the look of the glass tops. It's also easier to clean. Now, I have the coil type, and it's a pain cleaning everything. Some of the newer ones keep a light on when the surface is still hot, so you won't accidentally put something on a hot surface.

Re: Electric Stoves
While I prefer gas, and had that in my apartment, we have electric with the coils at our house. I had that growing up, then my parents switched to the ceramic cooktop.
From my point of view, if you have to have electric, get the flat top. SO MUCH easier to clean and take care of and no real difference in performance.
When we can finally redo the kitchen that is what I will get!

Re: Electric Stoves
I hate my glass top-it is not easy to clean, especially if you spill something while cooking and it gets burnt on. However, maybe it's just because I haven't learned the trick to cleaning it.

I say go for the glass top. We have the coil right, but we will change that once we redo our kitchen.

Honestly that is my biggest fear...burning something on it...does that stuff come off??...Does it scratch easily???

Re: Electric Stoves
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my glass top stove
i use a cleaner made for the glass top stoves and a razor blade scraper. the stuff goes on...I scrub it with a scrubby pad then I scrap any really burnt on stuff with the razor blade. then wipe all down with water and a sponge. I then take a paper towel to "polish" it up.
I have never been happier with an appliance!!

Re: Electric Stoves
LOVE my glass top.
We had the coils and the burnt on food that collects and is uncleanable is discusting. The drip pans will NEVER look like they did when you first bought them.
The glass top is really easy to clean. We use wipes for regular messes and then get out the cleaner and scrub for heavier, burnt on food.
Plus the glass top looks so neat and clean, just because it's flat (and so shiny).

Re: Electric Stoves
I looooove my ceramic glass cooktop!! I've only had coils (growing up, in all the apts we rented, etc) until we re-did our kitchen and the glass is the best. It's so easy to clean, boils water and cooks quick, doesn't get scratched, etc.

Oh you haven't learned the tricks, lol. Remind me in an FM to let you know the stuff we use to get the burnt on stuff off. It works miracles.

Re: Electric Stoves
*warning: cooking enthousiast with severe bias for gas stoves *
I can't stand those glass tops... IMO they are the WORST. I think they're made for people who don't cook a lot.
Reason I say that is because every meal there's always a little splatter of grease and sauce, right? well, they're GLASS tops... so they have to be spotless like glass in order to look reasonably clean
And since the splatter always occurs mid-cooking, it's baked on and difficult to remove.... I don't want to have to scrub the heck out of my stove EVERY NIGHT. I want to give a quick sponge swipe and do a thorough cleaning merely once a week.
If gas isn't an option, I frankly would go the coil route.... at least it cleans-up like a gas stove for the most part.....

Re: Electric Stoves
I have burned some really nasty crap on my glass top. The magic eraser works wonders.
Sometimes it just takes time to clean. They make a glass top cleaner you can probably get at either PC Richards or Home Depot in the appliance section.

I have zero problems cleaning the ceramic top stove.
I use this stuff and a razor blade and I never have a problem getting my stove top clean.
I use the Cerama bryte and a green scrubbie pad that is wet. I scrub the top and then I use the razor blade for of the really burnt on stuff.
even the messiest stove of mine only took 10 mns to clean
Let me know if anyone wants me to come and clean their stove for them!!

Re: Electric Stoves
I prefer gas (and that's what we have now in our new apt.).
But in our old apt. we had an electric glass top. LOVED IT!!!!
It's really not as hard to clean as everyone is saying it is (at least IMO) and we cook a lot and splatter a ton.
The thing I loved most about the glass top was that there were so many heating options (you were able to heat the space between 2 "coils" to make it like a griddle... AWESOME!!!).

Re: Electric Stoves
i've only used gas but in florida it will be electric....my mom made the switch when she moved about 5 years ago - she cooks fairly often and says that the electric is much easier to clean but it did take some getting used to - what i dont like with the gas stove is you have to take off the grates to clean under on and around the burners and you have to soak and scrub the grates....i hate that....i *think* i rather scrub one flat surface.....

Re: Electric Stoves
Ive always had gas, now in my new house i have glass electric....and i have a hard time cleaning it. I bought that cermabryte stuff and im not sure if im using it right but it seems more like a polisher than a cleaner??! And everyone keeps freaking me out saying not use anything on it or it will scratch>!!?!? Are you suppose to add water to that?
