Re: embarrassed by your living situation?
I feel the exact same way and I live in a 4 bedroom colonial! We just have so much clutter everywhere that I am embarrassed to have anyone here. I am getting so anxious too now that baby is almost here b/c I know that means people will be coming over and I'll never be able to get rid of it all. So if it makes you feel better--it really doesn't matter how much space you have, it can be embarrassing no matter what!

Re: embarrassed by your living situation?
We too live in a 1 bedroom apt above my in-laws to save money. very grateful. we are cluttered but happy. you are not alone. our bedroom fits one queen size bed touching 3 of 4 walls and 1 end table. thats it-literally, you walk in and hop on the bed, ha! we thought we were pregnant recently (but not ) we were planning to remove (throw out/sell/put in dh childhood bedroom downstairs) all our bookcases, trunks, cd racks and an end table from our living room to make room for the baby if we needed to. can't afford to move out yet or anytime soon.
congrats on the baby! no worries! you're lucky!

Re: embarrassed by your living situation?
Hey, sorry for crashing
You know that we are in the same exact living situation right now - living in my parents' attic and I feel the SAME exact way about having people over. But you know what is hysterical? When we visit friends, if they live in a bigger apartment or even a house, everyone always just kind of cozies up in one small space with people sitting on the floor, arms of the couch, pulling in kitchen chairs, etc. So, I know if we had extra people over - they would do the same exact thing!
And at least you will be able to fit your baby in your bedroom - we figured out that if we are living here while TTC, our baby has to be stuck in the living room b/c nothing else fits in our bedroom! I always joke that I am going to clean out our pantry and make it a nursery. . .
ETA: I remember talking about our living situation before we got married - and I wanted to say that it works SO well for us, we are extremely happy with the situation right now - so all that worrying for nothing!

Re: embarrassed by your living situation?
i can relate, when my first was born we lived at my moms. we were actively looking for an apt but couldnt find one. when we did a year later it was a 1 bedroom, we stayed there for 4 years! We did have friends over b/c they didnt really care, but i didnt invite family over b/c it was small and i knew they were wondering how we live like this. You do what you gotta do, they will come see the baby and who cares if they stand or sit on the floor, maybe just get a few folding chairs to take out when people come?

Re: embarrassed by your living situation?
I think you can always feel like you don't have enough space and be envious of other people's larger living spaces.
My husband is always saying he wishes our house was bigger - I always tell him " this is our home, this is what we could afford and I'm grateful for what we have. " Then he agrees.
Just tell yourself that. Nothing is permanent. Every couple struggles in the begiinning.
