wow- lotsa toys! I'm sure she loves it.. I'm too much of a type A personality- I'd be crawling up the walls. I already told DH he has to make a playroom in the basement so I don't have to see all the toys all the time

I think it looks like ALOT of fun for her. Please please dont think I am being critical as I know you worked hard to make it that way, but it seems alittle overwhelming for a little kid (which could be why she pulls out a toy and moves on). I'm sorry its prob the OT in me coming out lol (we tell parents to not have a million toys out as it can be overstimulating).
I may be the only one to feel that way and def to each their own, if it works for you guys, then thats greatChat Icon again you posted pictures, so I am just giving my opinion

I was thinking the same thing. I think all of those toys are awesome but I personally would never have them all out at once Chat Icon

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not judging, just speaking for myself. I personally find it over stimulating and it would make me nuts to have toys all over, but I'm a little bit of a freak about too much stuff being out. I clean up right behind DS which probably isn't good either. If I leave something out it will drive me crazy til I put it in its place Chat Icon

I agree, and I am the first to admit that I have bought Jack every single toy out there on the market.

I found that he was not REALLY playing with any of his toys because he was overwhelmed with his selection. He would go through the entire bunch within 30 minutes. Once we started getting speech I spoke to his therapist about it and she explained that I have wayyyy too many toys. So since then I've really reorganized things and put in storage (for Tyler) anything that he really no longer plays with)

ETA: I would put away two of the following three things. The exercauser opened, the Elmo Table, or the Learning Table. All three pretty much have the same function and once the other two are cleared out she will be able to focus more on the one activity table!

Also, I would either take away the Learning Farm OR the Learning Kitchen. I don't think you need both. That will open up SO much more room and give her more room to play! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Emma's Play Room/Our Living Room (pic overload)

My living room is my playroom for 2 kids--we need to be selective in what we bring in but people buy them tons of stuff so we have tons of toys

HOWEVER...it was a big eye opener when an EI specialiost came for Carlo and told us it was SENSORY OVERLOAD

she told me to get rid of the toys and put himn on a WHITE sheet so he could focus on one thing

at that point i started to get rid of stuff

my kids didnt even open all their xmas stuff yet

Looks like our house but organized Chat Icon

I don't think Jess minds the stuff and I have personally witnessed Emma play with literally a LOT of toys at once while other babies just kinda sit there, so she is a big toy kid. Just think that Jess wasnt looking for suggestions but showing off her organizational skills! Chat Icon

Good point! What works for some doesn't work for others. I hope my post didn't come off the wrong way Jess. I know that for me, it wouldn't work- I'm very neurotic. Plus, with dust and allergies- it would be a pandora's box of health issues. I guess since I grew up as an asthmatic and suffered with allergies and various forms of dermatitis, I am very cautious with too much "stuff" and I feel the need to keep things very clean and sanitized. Plus, I'm a teacher- so I often worry about germy toys and cleaning them after viruses and coldsChat Icon I already soak my classroom in Lysol- imagine how bad I'd be at home.

see.... I'm nutso

Jess- great job on setting everything up- I like how you made different 'stations' for her to play.

When's the palydates?!! LOL we have about half that and DH already goes bonkers trying to not have everything out...... but as I type DS is litterally sitting in his toy box pulling one thing out at a time and dropping over the side Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon All I do is pick up toysChat Icon Chat Icon

This is me also. I am far from a neat freak but that is just too much clutter for me. Our playroom is in the basement, we have a cube storage thing and it is pretty organized but it still drives me nuts. I want to give a few things to family or sell on Criagslist.

it's a little tikes tunnel. one side has grooves so you can crawl up it and the other side you can slide down or crawl up. i got it on craigslist for 20 & it is in mint condition (it was in her basement - never went outside). Em LOVES sliding down the side...she even goes, WEEEEEEEEEEEEE....

i'm in NJ - ANY time anyone wants to come visit - my doors are open!

Lovely! Poor Julia only has about 1/3 of the toys Emma has! We need to go to Target quick!

Jess, does Julia look like a triplet in this avatar pic?

Holy 40 year old virgin house...that what I thought of when I saw your toys. I love it! I don't know you but I'm assuming anyone that does know you would probably say that your house is sooooo you and dave!

My animals wouldn't last 2 minutes there. They'd go straight for dave's line up!Chat Icon
