Eryk is sick..... advice for a new mommy?

ugh. I feel so bad for him. he's 7.5 weeks old and is congested and lethargic.... no fever, mercifully. He normally wakes up frequently crying and super-hungry... now, nothing. I have to nudge him awake and change him to try to feed him. he still eats, but it's without enthousiasm.

what can I do for him? I use the bulb to get junk out of his nose... what else? I don't think he's at the level of going to the Dr, since he doesn't have a temp. I feel so bad. Maybe if he's just as tired and out of it tomorrow I'll call the ped anyway....

thanks for your advice....

Steam up the bathroom & bring him in there for a few min.

I'm sure you're doing a great job

nope no vaccinations yet. he's also been kept in complete isolation... he's only been at home, or at Oma's house. no mixing with the public. But DH has a light headcold (mild congestion / mild sore throat)... so that' what Eryk must have caught.

Emma is sick too, poor thing didn't have a chance to avoid it, DH got sick and I got sick two days later...plus i'm bringing home all the germs from all my sick students.

I've been using the bulb and saline solution...seems to be breaking up the junk in her nose.

how do you use saline in the nose w/o accidentally choking them? I guess the stuffiness prevents it from dripping down the throat?

Yep I have the Inclined to Sleep but I even added a folded blanket under that. You can put him to sleep in his bouncy chair if you have to to keep him inclined. I would send DH to CVS tonight to pick up a humidifier. It helps sooo much!

My son has his first cold and we've given him a bath every night to make him feel better (since he's sick). We use the Johnsons Vapor bath and then we use the Vicks plugin in his room.

It happens...they have to start building up their immune systems.

Nice warm baths or bring him in the bathroom when you shower...the hot water helps clear them. A humidifier in his room. Also, check with your ped. about Baby Vicks...it's all natural. I think the first time I used it on DS he was 2 1/2 months...and you can use the baby saline nose spray. Helps them breathe better.

AJ got sick around then too

I used "Little Noses" you can get it at CVS, etc. A drop or two in each nostril. She hated it but it was easier to get the gunk out of her nose and keep her nose moist.

I bulbed her at least once a day

I used her incline sleeper and put a folded (not rolled) blanket under the head part. Honestly, one night she was suffering so badly I held her completely upright against me so she could sleep. Chat Icon

I used our humidifier all the time in her room. Try the shower option

Good Luck.. its so sad to see them sick! Chat Icon
