Re: Everytime I ask my friend

The simplest solution here is just don't ask your friend what she's having for dinner!

That way, you're happy not knowing they are eating take-out.
And she's happy you are not judging her.

what she is making/they are having for dinner, it is NEVER a cooked meal! Chat Icon

Taco Bell
Chinese (At least twice a week)
TV Dinners
KFC
McDonalds
Boston Market

***. How can people live like that? Make your man a home cooked meal. Make a Hamburger Helper, tuna casserole, anything easy, just stop eating CRAP and being a lazy slob. Ugh!

OMG!! Since when do you know my MIL?!!!
That's her to a T!!!!

It drives me ABSOLUTELY crazy......OK a little less nowadays because we are married & I feed my DH.....but before that it always got me so upset that she never thought to serve a homemade meal to her family.

Years ago...she would cook MAYBE once a week...takepout for the rest.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If my husband cooked for us, it would be egg noodles and packet brown gravy every night. I HAVE to do the cooking, or else we would be eating McDonalds and Wendys every night.

What I was saying however, is not only is it not healthy to eat stuff like that every night, it just isnt the way I "know".

I agree whole heartedly with this statement!

DH has no idea how to make anything....and I think he would like to learn someday...so maybe I will get a break in his retirement days!!!

Re: Everytime I ask my friend

maybe im stupid, but i feel that Im home all day with my kids, and my hubby works really hard,
when he comes home i think he deserves a home cooked meal, its the least i can do...plus i actually enjoy cooking!
Sitting around all day doing nothing gets old quick(not that I EVER have time to do that!)
But i also feel its my obligation as a mom & wife to provide a good meal for my family.... ...call me an old fashion kinda girl!

I kind of feel the same way since I'm home all day with the baby. Not that Molly isn't a full time job herself but I do think it's up to me to make family dinner a home cooked meal and that to be the norm, not the exception.

DH would cook if I asked him to but I am SUCH a better cook then he is so I rathe eat my food then his. His job is to clean up and that is fine with me.

Re: Everytime I ask my friend

We used to eat fast food a lot and our weight and chol. went through the roof...we had to get into the habit of planning ahead and leaving out chicken breast or pork chops to defrost...

It's so easy to just bake some chicken or pork chops with a little shake n bake and a vegetable or potatoes....

But it's something you have to get used to.

Re: Everytime I ask my friend

How old are these friends? I know I ate a lot of fast food in my early 20's but over the years, that changed.

Also, do you ever have them over for dinner? I know until I started going out to dinner to real restaurants, I didn't realize that "regular" food could be so much better than a #4 with a chocolate shake. Chat Icon

In my house, If anyone cooks a meal, it's DH, never me. I don't consider it fun or, my responsibility. DH grew up with a grandmother who enjoyed cooking/baking with him, and he learned from her. With my mom, dinner was purely utilitarian - what could she whip up that was healthy for her kids and quick? So I never really acquired an enjoyment for it.

We don't do fast food, but we will eat very simple and quick things for dinner a lot of times. Lean Cuisines, pasta & sauce, PB&J sandwiches, bowls of cereal even.

Also, since there is only 3 1/2 hours between the time we get home from work and when we're in bed, we don't do big meals on workdays. It's not good to eat a heavy dinner for my sleep issues, or weight-wise either.

But on Sundays, I'll bake something for us and he will make us dinner. Once a week is fine for us. Tomorrow, I'm going to try my hand at rugelach and he's making filet mignon. Yummy!

i agree

I grew up with dinner on the table every night..so I do the same. Some nights I put more effort in the dinner than others, but regardless there is food on the table

IMO,if your not the one eating the dinner I am providing then you have no say~

Re: Everytime I ask my friend

i have a friend like that too... doesn't cook "real" meals- they go out to eat alll the time. AND her DH does ALL the cleaning, too... i'm like at least she should share SOME of it with him....
for us, we do pretty well! DH likes to cook, so we usually cook together. we have to plan ahead too- every sunday we sit down and decide what we're gonna eat for the week and what we need to buy to make it... it helps to keep us on track. that way we don't come home from work every day and say " what are we gonna have for dinner? oh well... lets just go out"
