Exotic meats.
I had my xmas party last night at a famous brew house in Sydney. It was really fun and the food was delicious, but my head is definitely feeling this hot, hot morning (getting close to 90 degrees here).
Anyway, the choice of appetizers was kangaroo loin or smoked salmon. There was no choice, it rotated around the table. I hate smoked salmon and I was so hungry. Turns out I was served the kangaroo and I didn't not want to eat it as my boss was sitting across from me and he is very pro- Australian.
I always swore I would never eat kangaroo b/c when you ACTUALLY (I am in a city, so when we go outside to the country you will see them sometimes) do see them hopping around they are so cute .
It was delicious! Like beef without the fat, apparently much healthier and kangaroo culling is better for the environment from what I've read.
So what exotic meats have you tried?

I've had kangaroo. It is oddly yummy and I did feel bad about eating it too Besides that no really exotic meats unless you count the bugs I ate in Thailand
BTW: What did you end up wearing to the party?

Re: Exotic meats.
kudos bunny wife... you're more daring than me any day... I don't do exoskeletons
being euopean, I'm more accustomed to eating wierd parts than wierd animals... (since I have a bad fish allergy, I'm restricted to our terrestrial pals) wierd animals: love snails (fav food!), had frog legs (not a fan), ate donkey salami in italy in the 80's... felt very guilty but it WAS the best salami I ever ate and then the standards.... quail, pigeon, pheasant, venison....
wierd parts, well, THEN you're talking! I've eaten almost every part of the pig (shocking admission by a german ), and most of the cow.... every organ except the brain and reproductive parts
also grew-up eating raw beef (steak tartare) and even raw pork (not in this country... I'm not nuts )
I think 'wierd meat' is all relative to your upbringing... it's all edible

LOL. Thanks for asking. After I asked many a co-worker what they were wearing, I came to the conclusion that skinny jeans, a nice top and some killer heels would work. Other colleagues SAID they were doing something similar, so I went out and bought a dressy black top. I had to bring my clothes to work and I got ready at the gym as there wasn't enough time to go home and get ready. That morning when I got to work, half those people who said they were doing the jeans and nice top thing, switched to really dressing up with cute dresses. I was so disappointed that I didn't get a cute dress. Oh well.
In the end it was a mix of people doing the cute top jean thing and dresses. I wasn't so out of place, but it was my major dilemma for the latter part if the week.

Actually the kangaroo is a big pest to farmers. They hop over the fences and eat the grass, which is for the sheep. They will also drink the water, which can be a problem during drought. We are always in a drought. But on the other hand, kangaroos are native to Australia and sheep are not. They were brought over by the Europeans. The sheep industry is bigger here than the kangaroo industry.
They are carefully culled and that is under government standards. We have so many here, but not in urban areas. I always get nervous when driving out in the country, b/c they hop erratically and you don't want to hit one of them.

i've had crocodile and alligator before--when i lived in north carolina--there was a native american restaurant that served some rather exotic foods. my ex loved the alligator & croc "bites" they had--and i tasted it. (kind of rolled in a corn meal type breading and fried) not bad. they also had some sort of snake--but i couldn't bring myself to eat it--but he loved it.

I've tried alligator, ostrich, and goat meat. I will try just about anything once, although even I had to draw the line at turtle soup. I had one as a pet when I was a kid!

Re: Exotic meats.
I am such a picky eater. I hate trying new things, but Traveling Europe when I was in college afforded me the chance to try a LOT of things I swore I'd never eat. When in rome...
I've tried foie gras (duck liver pate), haggis, goat, rabbit, duck, cow tongue/liver, bone marrow "soup", carpaccio, antelope, elk, venison, snapping turtle chowder, frog legs and yes...I will admit to something I swore I'd never do......
I ate a Rocky Mountain Oyster

mmmmmmmmmmmm......last week I had a Fried Egg, Sausage, and Black Pudding Sarnie on Ciabatta, with lashings of Brown Sauce and Butter.
It was a heart attack waiting to happen, but it was sooooo delish. Something to be eaten only once every few months. Yummy!!!

DH said last night, I can't believe you want to eat Skippy! I was like who is Skippy? Now I know.
And I had no idea what the Offal section was until last night, where I found my kangaroo (I made some more last night ). It is much cheaper than steak and I can cook it and it comes out rather good. I thought Offal meant where the pet food is (we have pet food next to the human meat, if you want fresh raw meat for your pets). I thought that b/c Offal sounds like Awful.
