Expanding House Search? Love your neighborhood?
Hey All - After putting in what feels like a billion offers on houses as of late, I want to do my homework and make sure that we aren't ruling out any awesome towns.
DH and I have been looking in Williston Park, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Carle Place etc. and I was curious if any of you had recommendations for towns akin to these. Schools and commute to Manhattan (and price naturally), are some of our top needs, so if you have any recommendation of towns in Nassau (I think suffolk might be more of a commute than we would like) please share!

Rockville Centre. Great commute, great schools and live downtown area. Taxes are a stinker, but there are some good buys out there now.

The taxes are kind of a killer for us in RVC, though it does seem absolutely lovely! Thanks for the recommendation (I just searched some houses that looked fabulous but the taxes are definitely a few thousand more than we can swing)

I initially looked in some of those areas too with little luck. We expanded our search to Merrick (N and S), Bellmore (N and S), Wantagh and ultimatly moved to N. Bellmore and it is great. I work downtown manahattan and the LIRR is a 43 min (express) ride from Bellmore to Penn on the Babylon line. Taxes and prices are similar to some of the areas posted. I even think you will get a little more house. Good luck.

We had similar criteria when home shopping. We wanted the "feel" of the towns you describe and good proximity to NYC via LIRR. Floral Park was our first choice, and it is where we ended up buying. Couldn't be happier in our home and the location is great for the train and the parkways. What is your price range?

I Love Malverne. We're in VS #13 district though, not Malverne's. Affordable houses, affordable taxes, and it def has the small town feel.
Although I do love RVC!!

Thanks for the input ladies! I'm definitely going to take a look at some of these towns and start researching them a bit (and floral park has been on our list and we've made a few offers there bit it just hasn't been in the cards yet).

We're in Carle Place. We absolutely had to be towards the north side of the island, we considered all the towns you mentioned and Westbury (within the Carle place SD). East Williston was our reach neighborhood but not much you can find there at or below the $500 price point. I'd also look at Roslyn and Albertson depending on your budget. You can drive to Mineola and park in the pay per day lot easily.

Seaford has an express train to and from the city.
Also the surrounding towns (Bellmore, Massapequa, Massapequa Park).
SIL just sold her home which was in Seaford, a few blocks North of the train and it wasn't even on the market for a week and she had 2 offers.
She just bought again in Massapequa Park.

I also second any of the towns like Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa. I also have a ton of family that live in Lynbrook which is closer to the city.

Another vote for Franklin Square & Floral Park
I'd say FS too (great neighborhood) but there is no LIRR train station. There are neighboring towns with a station but parking is going to be a nightmare since you are not a resident of those towns.

We live in Glen Cove and love it. There are a lot of really nice houses and an Express Bus from downtown GC that goes to Midtown and Wall St. It's not for everyone, but I find it so beautiful and peaceful and a really great community with a lot going on.

we plan on looking in wantagh, north bellmore and north merrick (we are going to stay away from south bellmore & merrick bc of the water/sandy damage & flood insurance)
