Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
Sabrina is 15.5 months and we are still nursing 3 times a day. I want to wean by the mid summer but I don't see an end in sight. I have some questions for those who are nursing toddlers:
-Do you nurse DC at the same time every day? -What happens if you skip a feeding? It feels like forever until the next one. -Should I just let her come to me when she wants it now?
I feel like it took us so long to get started with nursing last year and now I don't know how to stop

I don't see an end in sight for us.
I nurse when he wakes.
After lunch.
After dinner.
He won't drink milk from a cup.
I have no idea if I even want to wean...its going to be so much work to get him to stop. I don't really mind it, but I like to know the end is coming.
He's 17 months old. If we are out all day, the mid day gets skipped and I am busting out of my bra by the time dinner comes around.
I try to put off the waking one sometimes and throw a waffle or banana at him instantly, but he acts like someone who has a coffee addiction, just not right until he nurses.
We eat really healthy in my house, so I worry where he would get other fats from. He hasn't gained weight in the past 6 months...at least with nursing I know he is getting fats.

Re: Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
Sabrina drinks well from a cup or sippy and she likes cow's milk. She just like mamma's milk too. Especially the way it is served
I just want to do some things this summer that don't involve her and wonder if it is possible to go without a pump and how flexible she will be.
Thanks Janice
Any other extended BF'ing mommies? I know there are more...

Im not at your stage yet (over a year) DS will be 11 months next week.
I also BF 3 times a day, usually the same times.
When he wakes up For his nap (around 11-12) and at Bedtime.

Re: Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
I just posted about this the other day...
DD is 1 (in a few days) and I need to start weaning...she has NEVER taken a bottle so it's been my boob for the past year at every feeding and at this point, it's just too much for me. I see NO self weaning in site and have just introduced whole cow's milk to her yesterday and doesn't seem to want anything to do with it
She always nurses... as soon as she wakes before each nap (2x a day) and before bedtime
She will nurse in between during the day at some points too. It's always on demand.
Today I stopped the inbetween nursing. She nursed when she woke and before both naps. I have been distracting her and giving her the cow's milk in between.
I'm trying to lose those feedings first and then gradually make it to the other ones.
I know this is going to be a long and slow process. I planned on BFing for a year or more...I had no plan of stopping at any particular point. But lately...I'm just getting over the fact that I'm the only one that feeds her...so I'm trying to change that so that I can have a little more freedom.

Re: Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
DD is 11 months and I still BF - she does get formula when we go out (the ped is having us hold off until she is 1 year for cows milk). I can't see her self weaning as she always is pulling at me and trying to BF when we are home. My goal was to make it to 12 months if I could - but I am dreading the weaning as I think she will fight me on it. Most days we are out of the house for a large portion of the day so she only BFs mornings and evenings and if she wakes at night. It was a fight for a while just to get her to take a bottle so we could leave the house, now she will take a sippy sometimes for water but not for formula. She has tried to drink directly from a cup a few times and can do it but she tries to grab the cup or knock it out of my hands so that isn't really an option.
The other issue is DD is not a big eater - I see all these kids who eat 2-4 small pancakes - she eats 1/2 of a small one if I push, 1/4-1/2 of a scrambled egg, or 1/2 of a yo baby yogurt as a meal - she just isn't a big eater. So I think weaning is going to be harder than I hoped.

Re: Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
i've been sloooowly weaning my ds (12+months) for a while now.
he drinks from a sippy so i started giving him a sippy before he nursed so he nursed less b/c he was full. (i always kept my ds on a scedule.) so when i dropped a feeding i would just increase the amount of milk in the sippy cup so he wouldn't need to nurse. he doesn't ask for it so it works out. we are down to 1 session a day (which he LOVES.) i'm procrastinating dropping it but will soon.

Re: Extended BFing Mommies-some???'s
26 mths BF here....DD was EBF for the first year and never had a bottle so I am having a really difficult time weaning her. When I started weaning her - about a year ago I tried distracting her at certain times that I knew she wanted to feed, that went well until I got a babysitter in for a few hours a day and then she seemed to want to nurse more as she needed the connection I think.
Now she feeds several times a night, first thing in the morning, afer her nap - 4pm, after her bath - 7-8 and then maybe once or twice before bed time - 10pm.
Some of the feedings like the ones during the night I try to limit as I am getting cranky now to be still feeding at night so I count to 5 on each side and try to persuade her thats enough - sometimes it works sometimes it does not.
I have no advice only I thought she would self wean a year ago but it hasnt happpened. I am done, she is not. My Ob Gyn told me he would want to prescribe something to dry up my milk as I am ttc #2 this summer but I really dont want to go down that road.
