Extremely weird question....flip flops and going to the doc

If you are going to the doctor, and not the type of visit where you will have to undress and get into a robe but just going there and rolling up your sleeve for blood pressure, blood, etc. Would you think its gross/unsanitary to wear flip flops? Its over 80 degrees already but I feel weird wearing them like my feet are out in the open near sanitized instruments. Yes I know I am insane Chat Icon Chat Icon Should I just sweat in sneakers?

Re: Extremely weird question....flip flops and going to the doc

i wear them - especially now that i'm pregnant my brick shaped feet are most comfy in flip flops. The only thing I get a little skeeved about is the scale - so I just leave them on.

Not my doctor but me (the patient). I see the consensus so far is that it is not gross. I appreciate your opinions.

Wear your flip flops. DS's pediatrician was wearing flip flops this week!

It's not dirtier than a public bathroom in a restaurant.

I would wear flip flops.

Re: Extremely weird question....flip flops and going to the doc

I think it is much cleaner than a public restroom!

It's totally fine. you're the patient, you're not expected to behave in any manner to avoid 'contaminating' something.

if there's something that should be sterile, it will surely be stored in an appropriate manner, so toes and sneezes are not an issue Chat Icon

I never thought about that but I can't wear flip flops on planes or on the subway - the thought of my feet being exposed to the floor makes me GAG

This is what I was getting at. I do not want to feel like I am contaminating something! But you are right, all sterile things are obviously stored correctly.

Yes I know I am a little off for thinking of these things in the first place!

the type of medicine practiced would determine my answer more than what type of visit I would be experiencing.

Re: Extremely weird question....flip flops and going to the doc

no not at all. Our feet in flip flops are cleaner than most people I've seen going to the doctor too. So no worries when wearing flip flops.

I never thought it was unsanitary to wear them to the doctor, but like some other posters, I would not wear them on the subway.

Re: Extremely weird question....flip flops and going to the doc

I don't understand what is so gross about wearing flip flops anywhere. You're not barefoot people! For those that are skeeved out wearing it in subways I hope you walk around with a box of gloves too because our hands are the biggest bacteria collector on our body.
