Facebook privacy issue
Does anyone know how I can report a complaint to facebook. The only thing I can find is a help center in which other users can help me.
Here's my issue: My account is private and my pictures are viewable by my friends only. I do understand that if a friend gets tagged in my picture it becomes viewable by all their friends. I got a friend request and message from someone I don't know but we had one friend in common. She explained she didn't know me but enjoyed looking at pictures of my girls. The one friend we had in common had commented on my picture of my girls. She was not tagged in the photo so I don't understand how this stranger could have seen my picture. She seems harmless but I was way creeped out by this!!

Re: Facebook privacy issue
It is kinda creepy and I don't like that new feature of FB either. I'm assuming she saw your pic on that timeline thing that's on the right side of the page that constantly updates with every move any of your FB friends make. So when your friend commented on your pic, her friend must have seen it pop up on the side of the page that her friend commented on a pic. It would allow her to see the pic even though she is not your FB friend and your mutual friend is not tagged in the pic. It's a stupid feature

That's how I figured she saw it but based on my settings I feel that facebook violated my privacy, don't you think?

Re: Facebook privacy issue
By your friend commenting on the picture, it pops up in the Ticker on the right side. Unfortunately everyone can see that and see what they commented on.
I don't there is a way to block that feature.

Agreed. I don't think there is anything you can do short of not posting photos.
But what a creeper! Who would think it's cool to send a friend request like that?!

Legally? No. You had to have agreed to these new terms and conditions. They've been out since back in December, so you might not remember it, but there was a bar at the top of your Newsfeed. It doesn't go away until you accept the new privacy policy. But I agree that the feature is strange and I don't like it. Something similar happened to me with photos I had taken at a work event. The only way I could keep my FB private was to unfriend ALL of my co-workers.

Once you put your photos on FB they are no longer 100% YOUR photos. So they can't violate the privacy if you have given them rights to the images by uploading.
This is directly from their site:
For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.

Re: Facebook privacy issue
I hate this and its the reason i barely comment or like anything anymore. Fyi people also see anything you 'like' in their ticker. Stupid and annoying. So i just keep it moving.
Sorry this happened to you, fb is really starting to suck ballz.

Can this really be done? I have been looking to block friends from commenting or tagging themselves in my pics but can't find how to do it.

I think it needs to be done album by album but I'm not certain.
ETA: Actually, I can't find it, not even in the specific albums. If they did away with that feature, that's ridiculous!

Re: Facebook privacy issue
isn't there a privacy setting on your photo album for who can see the pics posted in there?
i have it set to "friends" only, not friends of friends, and i'm pretty sure it's only my friends who can see them, even when they do comment.

It's not, trust me. No matter what kind of setting it is, your friend's friend will be able to see it in the ticker on the right. If they click the pic, they will be able to see ONLY the pic your friend commented on (so long as you have the album's privacy set to Friends only), but they'll still be able to see it.

ok, i just double checked, cuz it was creepin' me out, and if i set my "photo-album" to friends only, friends of friends can't see it.
not even if my friend is tagged. if it's a "friends-only" album, only your friends can see it.

But if your friend comments on a photo in your album, it's then shown on the ticker and friends of theirs can see what they commented on.

Yes. THAT'S the issue. Because they consider your friend commenting or liking something your friend's "activity" which is exactly what the ticker shows.

The ticker is just dumb. I don't need to see that my friend like Joe Shmoe's picture

i just tried it, and it's not happening to my 'friends only' albums.

You won't realize it's possible until a stranger sends you a message telling you how adorable your children are but trust me it's possible! Every picture I have is set for friends only, I double checked this when I got that message and somehow this woman was able to see the picture our mutal friend commented on.

Re: Facebook privacy issue
This is all I can find about sharing photos on facebook:
When I share something, how do I choose who can see it?
Before you post, look at the audience selector. Use the dropdown menu to choose who you want to share a post with.
Public
Friends (+ friends of anyone tagged)
Only Me
Custom (Includes specific groups, friend lists or people you’ve specified to include or exclude) You'll see this tool wherever you share content, whether it’s a status update or information on your profile (timeline).
The tool remembers the audience you shared with the last time you posted something and uses the same audience when you share again unless you change it. For example, if you choose Public for a post, your next post will also be Public unless you change this audience when you post.
If you want to change who you’re sharing with, open the dropdown menu and choose a different audience. Remember: anyone you tag in a post, along with their friends, may see the post.
To make it clear who you’re sharing with at all times, the audience you select appears along with whatever you are saying, every time you share. You can also use the audience selector to change who you are sharing with after you post something.
Note: You will not be able to use the audience selector unless you are posting on your own profile (timeline). If you post to another person's profile (timeline), the person whose profile (timeline) you are posting to controls what audience can view your post.
and under FAQ's
I am able to view a non-friend's entire photo album by clicking through from a photo that my friend is tagged in. Is this violating their privacy settings?
It's important to remember that the "tagging" feature does not allow users to see photos that they wouldn't normally be able to see. If you're able to see photos that a non-friend uploaded through a photo that they tagged one of your friends in, it is because this person has most likely set his or her album privacy to the "Public" setting (so that everyone on the site is able to view it).
My picture was not tagged nor was it set to public so they need to update this information to include that anyone that comments on it their friends may see it as well otherwise it is very misleading.

Re: Facebook privacy issue
-- go to privacy settings -- choose Custom -- in "these people or lists", choose Friends -- uncheck "friends of those tagged" -- click to save changes -- click on "manage past posts" below and then "limit" and "confirm"
THEORETICALLY, this will set it up so that only your friends will be able to see your photos.
HTH!
ETA: now friends of people who are tagged should not be able to see the pictures ... but i'm really not sure about friends who make comments on a picture still
FB is very confusing about privacy and it drives me crazy!!
