Re: Family kicked off of Jet Blue flight after toddler’s temper tantrum
I'm guessing that they were concerned that if the child needed to get out of the seat to use the bathroom while in flight, there was a chance they couldn't get the kid back in their seat quickly in case of an emergency. That is most certainly a danger. I'm curious to know how long it took them to get the kid belted in.

Airport hotels are not $2K a night.
I was just in T&C in december. There are no "airport" hotels there unless you want to stay in a flea bag motel. It's full of resorts. While I doubt they had to pay $2000k for one night - the hotels there can be pricey.

My 2 year old throws super tantrums like this. I can't imagine having to pay an extra 2k for a flight home, that sucks. While it may have been justified to remove them from the flight, the expense then should have been on the airline.
Yes it does suck, but this shouldn't be at the expense of the airline. What happened to taking responsibility for our (and our children's) actions?? It was in no way the airlines fault that they couldnt safely take off due to the behavior of this child.
ITA with Katareen, there is NO way the airline should be responsible... as a parent we are responsible for our children.
It's not the parents fault. Toddlers cry. It's not the airlines fault either. However, if the airline decides that these people can't fly that day why should the people pay an extra 2k? Why can't they let them change their flight for free? It's not like they were drunk.
It seems like bad business IMHO.

The rebooked flight would have been free. I'll guarantee they booked on another carrier.
I was a flight attendant for 14 years. I was always amazed at the yarns that passengers spun to get "compensation."

ITA. I've flown Jet Blue twice in the last year with a young baby (under 1 year old) and both times the gate & flight attendants did everything in their power to make our lives more difficult. From talking about us in Spanish (when we speak the language fluently but they assumed we didn't) to giving away our extra legroom seats (paid for months in advance) to someone else without asking us if it was ok to split the four seats up.
When I spoke up that I needed the seats together b/c it can be difficult flying with a baby, the stewardess said "Get over it honey, it's JUST a baby. We've all done it. She then spoke to another stewardess (loudly) about how "Some people only think about themselves".
Her tone was aggressive and threatening and unfortunately, due to the nature of the world we live in today, the airlines & their employees have the power & use and abuse it. The minute a passenger speaks up, they can be labeled "difficult" and thrown off a flight as a security threat. While I am all for safety precautions due to the real threat of terrorism, I am NOT ok with having my rights as a paying customer violated for little or no provocation.
Clearly, this airline is not accommodating to families and I will NEVER fly them again.

I have MANY friends who work for JB so this makes me sad to hear.
How can they give your seats away if they were yours? Don't they assign seats?

We had chosen our assigned seats online months prior. A disabled man was seated in the row in front of us but his seat would not recline. Since they had started boarding other passengers, they didn't want to stop boarding to get his wheelchair so they moved him to our row without even asking or notifying us. There were other rows around us they could have moved him to that had passengers flying without children.
They made us out to be heartless people and made the issue about the disability, when it had nothing to do with our situation. It was simply my first time flying with the baby and I needed to be seated with my parents so they could help me with diaper changes & entertaining a very active 8 month old.

Re: Family kicked off of Jet Blue flight after toddler’s temper tantrum
I think the airline had every right to kick the family off. If the kid was being held down, most likely she was still kicking and screaming. Some kids have some loud screams. The other passengers where probably getting angry and yelling at the parents and flight attendants. Like someone else said, there must be more to the story.

ITA I saw the interview with the mother an she said she doesn't blame them for kicking them off.

Re: Family kicked off of Jet Blue flight after toddler’s temper tantrum
They had every right to evict that family from the plane. While I totally feel for them, it was definately a safety hazard. If they were holding their child down with all their might there is no way that child would have lasted the whole flight. If they took the seatbelt off after take off, there is no guarantee they could get the seat belt back on incase of an emergency and then the parents lives would be at risk too. The screaming I do not think had anything to do with it, it was more of the child not sitting in the seat.

Re: Family kicked off of Jet Blue flight after toddler’s temper tantrum
toddlers cry , but then its on the parents how they respond to it.
my toddler is 2 - he gets time out when he's misbehaving. The issue is resolved within 5-10 minutes.
It takes more time then that for the plane to board, there has to be more to the story.

It said in the story that the hotel PLUS rebooking all their flights added 2K which i can certainly see...
And to comment on the story..definitely more to it. There HAS to be. I'm sure the child was crazy screaming and uncontrollable. I'm sure those parents will not be flying again anytime soon...or if they do, it's called BENADRYL lol.
