Family Vacation Ideas
Any suggestions? We are looking for a summer vacation destination, driving distance (we don't mind a long drive), doesn't need to be an amusement park but we would like things to do and see. Did Ocean City, MD last year and like to do that every other year. Kids are 11, 9, 5. We have a camper too, if that adds any ideas. Thanks!

Wildwood/cape May
You have the beach, pool, an amazing free zoo, the boardwalk with all the rides, a water park. Soooo much to do and so much fun!

Is it a typical beach town? I'm thinking I might want to change it up since we just did Ocean city last year. I just don't know what else there is to do!

White Mountains NH is great! We LOVED it there. If you do a search you will see a lot of things I've talked about there. You could even take your camper. Mountain Lake campground looks great, we were going to rent a cabin there

Yes pretty much. But Cape May is more historic

Re: Family Vacation Ideas
We visited Niagara Falls last year and it was great. Tons to see and do and Niagara on the Lake is almost as fun (if not better) with vineyards and a cute town.
Broke the way up with Lake George (Fort) /Saratoga (race track) and the way down with a hike at Watkins Glen State Park (easy, crowded, but beautiful).
Was a great trip... long drive but exciting and fun for everyone

Re: Family Vacation Ideas
Rehoboth Beach, DE. Highly recommend. Its a “classier”, cleaner, more family friendly version of wildwood. Quaint streets, boardwalk and beach.

Re: Family Vacation Ideas
If you do go to Wildwood I recommend staying in Diamond Beach. Next town over but a lot more family friendly and upscale. It's more residential with condos to rent, but we do have a hotel we love there.

I looked into this last year and couldn't find much for my kids to do there other than the beach. Are there rides/waterparks that are nearby?

Our kids were 11 and 14 and we didnt look for water parks or amusement parks. But i found the general vibe to be about younger kids. There are Tanger outlets nearby that we went to on the one rainy day. I think there was some kind of go cart or mini golf near outlets. We went 4 nights and that was enough. I heard there was a small amusement park for small kids. My kids were fine with beach, pool at hotel and eating/browsing/shopping boardwalk and then playing games and watching movies. I found it to be very relaxing, low key and nice people/environment (for example i tried to bring a drink on the beach and they were very strict). It was a nice getaway from our hectic lives! If you’re looking for lots/constant kid entertainment not sure about that.
Wildwood was a beautiful beach in the diamond beach and they loved the amusement parks but i felt boardwalk was too seedy and crowded at night.

Lake George
I second this. Took our boys there this past summer. It was by far the BEST family vacation ever. Blew away going to Disney

Family Vacation Ideas
My favorite summer vacation spot is Long Beach Island, NJ. There is actually a campground called Long Beach RV Resort & Campground which has wonderful reviews. LBI has gorgeous beaches and plenty to do. There is the Barnegat Lighthouse, Fantasy Island waterpark, arcade and rides, Bay Village (shopping village), nightly free concerts, bike/surrey rentals, a theater, a ton of mini golf and awesome restaurants. There also always seems to be some kind of fair going on if you check the chamber of commerce calendar. It is extremely family friendly. I also think it is much less seedy than other places on the Jersey Shore. I'd actually love to buy there, but it is too expensive. Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions about it.

Re: Family Vacation Ideas
I vote for cape may too. Our family loves it there. We go at least 4 times during the summer for long weekends. Theres tons to do for all ages. The beach is gorgeous. Theres tons of resturants. Mini golf. Shops. Trolley tours. Horse and carriage rides. Tours of light house. Watch tower tours. Vinyards. Wine tasting ( they give homemade juice to the kids). Dolphin watching. Whale watching. Parasailing. Kayaking. I could go on and on..we love it there. Trying to find a summer house there at some point.
