fear of infertility
Although I know I am not ready for a child, I am not even TTC, but I can't help but fear that I may have problems conceiving. I've been on BCP for years. My DH says - how do you know, have you ever tried? But still, I worry. Is this something most girls worry about?

Re: fear of infertility
you're definitely not alone, i worry about this a lot as well. I'm 30 now and we're not planning on starting for another year and a half. I don't really have any reason to worry, I just think its natural to feel that way.

Re: fear of infertility
I agree it's natural to worry, you sort of feel like, well if I haven't accidentally gotten pregnant maybe I can't (which is crazy to think...)....or at least that's how my crazy brain works....! Even though I use BCP also....I guess it's just one of those things!

Same for me except the BCP part. We only use PNP Thats all we have used for 6 years and NOTHING! So it scares me a little that we haven't has ONE scare. We shall see one of these days

Re: fear of infertility
i definitely agree with those who say that it's natural to feel this way. I certainly do not sit around worrying about it, neither does Dh. But from time to time I do consider it. I mean, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever that I wouldn't be able to conceive due to my family's history and my own health. But I don't know DH's body as well as I know my own! Sometimes when I think about it, I do get a ting of fear that maybe he can't or the both of us (even tho we're not trying to conceive yet either) Crazy. i try not to think of it.

Re: fear of infertility
You are not alone!! I worry to but I wont know until we are TTC (Which is not happening any time soon).
Is there something a dr. can detect before even TTC that would show we might have trouble??

Re: fear of infertility
I was worried about it and something told me it would happen to us....and it did. Very stressful and frustrating and depressing and horrible.
When I go to the dr, there are usually several dozen people in the waiting room. Very sad.

Re: fear of infertility
i did worry about this....
i was on the pill for 12 years due to ovarian cysts. A gyno when i was 21 told me that it may be hard to conceive because my ovaries were literally COVERED in cysts.
it took 6 months - we got pregnant on our 7th month trying... the first month we tried, i didn't use any 'method' for checking on anything - i figured - let nature take its' course. It's possible that you won't ovulate right away after being on the pill for so long (a friend of mine didn't ovulate for 9 months, but on that 10th month got pregnant).....
I tested for Ovulation the SECOND month of trying and I was lucky, i was ovulating.
one thing for you all to know, have in your mind. On average - it takes a year to get pregnant. If you have PERFECTLY timed sex for a full year, your chances of conception are only 50% (this comes from my doctor). This forum has a great TTC board and the women there are VERY helpful!!

This is exactly what my gyno told me. Seems like slim chances! But then i see all these teen moms that LOOK at a man and get pregnant. I just dont get it. As for PNP, my bff and her husband used this method, for 10 years and NADA. The month they decided to get preggers BOOM on the first shot, my godson was conceived!!!
I do worry, but try hard not to, till the time comes

Re: fear of infertility
my dr. thinks i'm insane. Literally, insane. I told all of my dr's, yes I've seen numerous OBGYN's over this, my fears of not being able to conceive and they all said you won't know until you try. It runs in my family to have trouble so I feel like I'm doomed to have trouble conceiving too.l

I am the only person ( or i thought i was teh only person ) who doesnt want to get pregnant that freaks out that she never GOT pregnant!

Re: fear of infertility
I worry all of the time but, I'm 35 and don't plan on trying for another year due to financial reasons (Dh was recently laid off) I've been on BC for over 12 years until I went off it about a year ago. I can feel myself ovulating so I'm excited abut that!

My friend and I were talking about this the other day...I know that the fear is irrational because like many of you have said...you wont know until you try...but again I worry that I haven't accidentally gotten pregnant yet

Re: fear of infertility
i had huge fears of trouble conceiving, for no apparent reason other than i knew people (not related to me) that have had several early miscarraiges and trouble conceiving. It made it seem more real to me.
So DH and I decided to start trying sooner than later, and we got pregnant on the 2nd month! We felt so lucky to conceive right away, however we ended up having an early MC at 7 weeks. Now we are both so happy we started trying when we did! Deep down, i never really thought this would happen to me, and i am fearful of what will happen during future pregnancies but i am SO glad we didn't wait! You honestly never know how long it will take to get PG.

Re: fear of infertility
I am so nervous about this I think I will be ok TTC but i have found cysts on my ovaries that is now gone since I have been on b-pills and I have a small fibroid that i was told wont affect me when I am ready to try and conceive as long as I am on the pill. So when I do come off the pill what will happen to me? I want to have kids really bad just not at this moment when me and dh is completely ready.I really I can

Re: fear of infertility
To be honest, I haven't had this fear. I don't know why. I have one friend that is going through this type of thing, but all my other friends and family seem super fertile so it really never entered my head.
