Febrile Seizures in 14 months-does anybody's kids experience this?????
Does anyone's children experience these?
My DS had one Friday night and we rushed him to the ER.
Once they had one did they have more after that?
Do you wait the seizures out or do you go to the ER?
If you wait it out (god bless you scariest moment in my life) how long do you wait.
I am so shaken up! He is fine now thank god but I am so on top of him and nervous it is going to happen again
he still has a fever so i am doing ib prof every 6 hours amd every 3 hours tylenol....
he had 100.6 i gave him ib then 3 hours later when I checked he is 101.4 so i gave him tylenol
I just want to keep it under control to prevent a crazy spike.
DS has gotten fever that have lasted a week before but this was his first febrile seizure episode...
any words of wisdom or experience from others would help greatly.

Re: Febrile Seizures in 14 months-does anybody's kids experience this?????
My neighbors son had them from about 1 year and up. Almost every time he had a fever go over 102, he had one. Once his fever went over 102, he spiked a high fever fast. They gave him Motrin and piggy backed Tylenol with it. The first time it happened, I was there. His fever was 104. We called the ambulance right away. They got his fever under control at the hospital. He was on Motrin every 5 hours until the fever broke. It usually broke in 24 hours. He went to the ER almost every time he had one. They didn't last long. He outgrew them around age 3. He is now 6 and is fine...
My friends nephew had his first one at age 1. He went to the hospital the first time and was admitted because he had an infection. He had 2 more seizures in the hospital. Once they got the infection under control the fever went down. He just had another one when he had coxackie. He doesn't always get them with a fever. But he also spikes high fevers fast. That is when they seem to happen in most kids.. The good thing is that they usually outgrow them by age 5 and they don't cause long term damage like regular seizures can. I would definitely call an ambulance and have him checked out when it happens. Good luck.

Re: Febrile Seizures in 14 months-does anybody's kids experience this?????
My DS had one at 16 months and it was really bad. He seized for way longer then the normal amount of time- like 10 minutes. It was the worst night of my life. Fortunately, he never had one again. Because his was so bad, we did follow up with a neurologist and everything was fine. But they did give us a steroid to administer if he had another seizure.

Re: Febrile Seizures in 14 months-does anybody's kids experience this?????
My son had three around the age of 18 months. It was absolutely terrible!! He had ear infections. He's 3 now and hasn't had one for almost two years. I totally understand how you are feeling. It was such a scary time for us!! I was a mess and became obssessed with taking his temperature. This was during the Tylenol recall, so I switched to using children's Advil.
Please FM if you have questions.

I am glad there are others who have experienced....well not glad for them but I know I am not alone in this...
It was AWFUL. I am just petrified all the time now. DS still has his fever it keeps going up and down with meds. But last night he had no fever from 8pm-8am. But then this morning at 10 he got 100.4. I just gave him IB prof and he went down for a nap...i will ck again and again but at 1 if he still has the fever he is getting tylenol.
I am temperature taking obsessive!
Thanks for all the info on your experiences with this it helps me so much mentally!
