feeding raw meat
has anyone ever heard of this or is anyone doing this?? i post on a cat forum & everyone there raves about raw diets to feed their cat
i've never ever heard of this & think its kind of strange -- they feed their cats raw meat -- like raw chicken, hens, even raw MICE!
i was wondering if anyone does this and what the benifits are to doing this.... i always thought that would be bad for the animal since eating raw meat is bad for us

Re: feeding raw meat
This is specific to raw feeding for Labs, but I think there's links in the FAQ threads that could help: http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/natural-diets-f34.html
I looked into it a little big and decided to forgo it. We do a lot for Brinkley over and above typical things but for us, I think bagged food is as far as we'll go at this point.

Re: feeding raw meat
I have heard of it, but haven't looked into it.
If carnivorous animals (such as dog and cats) eat raw meat, it is not the same as it is for us. Their guts are built to be able to tolerate it. Think about it - in the wild they eat raw meat. Wolves, lions, etc. kill and eat their prey. If a cat was feral it would be killing mice and birds and eating them raw.

Re: feeding raw meat
if it is eaten right away then yes. I even give some raw chop meat to my turtles as long as they eat it within 15 mins otherwise it get's tossed. Not because of maggots because of the smell. (turtles would LOVE maggots)

Re: feeding raw meat
I know a lot of people that feed their dogs raw diets. I had always planned to do it with my next dog. He's 6 months old now and I've been lazy about it but I am sure some day I will talk to the people I know that do it and research it more.
