Not sure if I can help, but I think you DS should be eating more food. DS just turned 7 months and he has 2tbs of cereal and 2oz of fruit for breakfast, 2oz of vegetables 1oz of rice/ pasta and dinner is the same plus 1oz fruit for dessert. DS drinks about 6 oz bottles 3x a day and I nurse him before bed and once or twice during the night.

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

WOW, Liam eats much much more than that. He was 8 mos on 9/18 (so he's almost 8.5 mos).

Right now, this is his sked
-5AM-6oz bottle (FF)
-8AM-breakfast, 1 full jar of stage 2 (or yogurt)
-9AM-6oz bottle
-12N-1 full jars of stage 2 (veggie or fruits). If still hungry, then I give some cereal.
-2-3PM-6oz bottle
-6PM-dinner, two full stage 2 jars or 1 jar and yogurt or pastina. (1 jar is the "dinner" ones and the 2nd will be fruit or veggie)
-7PM-6 oz bottle (although DS usually only takes maybe 3-4oz of it)

My son is 75% weight, 40% for height. He's always been a big eater and we started food at around 3-4 mos. He also has some table now (PED ok with everything).

Added, I think you should be on stage 2 by now (JMO though). Stage 1 was so thin and my DS went right into stage 2. Its more satisfying I think (its thicker)

I am so glad that you posted this! My DD is the same age and I feel so clueless sometimes and my ped is great but his answer is usually to use my own discretion. I like specifics!!!

This is what I do:

Between 5 and 6 AM: 5-7 oz of form.
8:30-9 1 jar of fruit and 2 tbsp. of cereal

Around mid-day: 1 jar of fruit

I always try to squeeze in another bottle either before her morning nap or in the afternoon...usually another 5 oz or so. I do have difficulty knowing where to fit this in.

5 PM 1 jar of vegetable and 2 tbsp of cereal
If she still seems hungry, I will offer her more veg or fruit

6 PM 5-7 oz of formula

I bought some of the veg mixed with meats. I am going to start giving her that for dinner soon.

I would love to hear what others do too!

ETS: All the jars are Stage 2.

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

My son is actually 8 months todayChat Icon

He gets four 7.5 ounce bottles per day

Breakfast- 2-3 tblsp of cereal, plus fruit

Lunch- yogurt or veggies

Dinner- a veggie/meat combo with a fruit as dessert.

Sorry, for the lack of measurements, but I make my own food. I do not use the jar food.

ETA: I am sure some will say my son could eat more, but he is not that big of an eater. He is in the 50-75% percentile for weight though and very healthy.Chat Icon

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

My DS is 8 months old tomorrow, and I feed him less because when I was giving him more solids, he wasn't taking enough breast milk, and at this age, they still get most of their nutrition from BM/formula (50-75% of their total daily calories should come from BM/formula).

I used to panic when I would read on here how much other babies his age eat, but every baby is different, and there is no exact amount they have to have, so I don't compare him to other babies anymore. His ped. agreed that I should decrease his solids so he would take more BM.

So right now he gets 1 tablespoon of cereal with a little bit of fruit mixed in for breakfast, 1-1.5 tablespoons of fruit for lunch, and 1-1.5 tablespoons of veggie for dinner. And he takes 21-24 oz. of BM per day. (Before I was giving him 2 tablespoons of each).

I would discuss it more with your ped, and take cues from your DC. THey will let you know when they are full, and keep an eye on how much milk your DC is consuming.

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

DS is 7 1/2 months and he gets

8:30am - 2 tbs cereal and 1/2 jar stage 2 fruit
4 oz. bottle

12 noon - 2 tbs cereal and 1/2 to 1 full jar fruit
4 oz. bottle

3pm - 6 oz. bottle

5:30/6pm 1 jar veggies with half a jar meat or one of the premixed stage 2 dinners

7:30 - 8 oz. bottle

So he is getting about 22 oz. of formula a day.

My boys are 7.5 months old.

7:30-8 Breakfast= 2-3tbs. morning oatmeal (I make a 6oz. bottle of formula) mix 1-2 oz. of formula and 1 jar of stage 1 fruit with the oatmeal.
Then they finish the remaining portion of their bottle.

11:30- 6oz bottle of formula

3:00- 6oz. bottle of formula

6:00- 5-6tbs. of cereal (I make an 8oz bottle) mix a few oz. of the formula with the oatmeal and a veggie.
6:20 the remainder of their bottle.

ETA: I also give them sometimes water with juice.

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

Indria - I think you are fine. At this stage, there is nothing of nutrional value to babies eating solids. It's purely for practice. Just go by her cues. Some days DD will eat an entire container of food in one sittng, other days just a half. I don't force it. Same for the cereal. She doesn't really care for it so I just let eat as much or as little as she wants.

As far as stage 1 vs. stage 2, IMO, it really doesn't matter at this point. DD is getting a mix of it. I have a bunch of Stage 1 veggies left, so she is getting that until it's gone. I just yesterday started her on a stage 2 fruit.

Again, just follow her cues, if she is looking for more, let her have it, if not, then so be it! Chat Icon

Sadie's schedule is really easy.

630- 6oz bottle, 2 or 3 tbsp of oatmeal, 3 cubes of fruit

830-1030-nap

1030- yogurt

1130- 6oz bottle

1-3 nap

330-6oz bottle

530-2tbsp cereal, 3 cubes veggies

7-6oz bottle

I also offer her sippy cups of water, puffs etc at the "food" meals.

Re: feeding schedule/amount help for 8 month old

My DD will be 8 months next week and she eats a lot more than that - sometimes I wonder if it's too much! Chat Icon

Weekdays look like:
Wake up - nurse (probably 6-7 oz)
Breakfast - 2-3 tbsp cereal with a stage 2 jar of fruit
6 oz bottle
Lunch - stage 2 jar of fruit or veggie or some combination thereof
6 oz bottle
6 oz bottle
Dinner - stage 2 jar of veggies or slightly less veggies with a small fruit "dessert"
Bed - nurse (probably 4 oz - never a big eater at night)

On weekends she nurses more frequently for less volume each time. We just started trying a few chunkier foods like tofu and avocado and are going to start yogurt soon. Sometimes we make our own food and then we treat each cube as 1 oz so she'd usually get 4 in place of a stage 2 jar.
