feeding solids question
In what order did you introduce solids?
We've done a week each of sweet potato, carrots, and then squash and next we start fruits. I guess we'll do apples, bananas and pears. I don't know if I want to try prunes - could DS get diarrhea? Last we start green veggies.
Also, what happens after you've tried all the foods? Do they try meats? Do I make my own "menu" mixing fruits and veggies?
Any info or web sites that could help would be appreciated!

Re: feeding solids question
it depends on your ped. Some ladies on here were instructed to start with fruit. I was told to start with veggies first. Oranges first (sweet potatoes, carrots, squash). Then green veggies (green beans, peas, etc). Then fruit. I did 3 days of each to ensure no reactions. We did it like that for almost 2 months since that's how long it takes with the 3 day windows. Then we were given the greenlight for meats. So again, 3 days on each. We were also given the ok for yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, mashed potatoes. Just don't do too much at once especially if your baby has a sensitive tummy.
Now for the prunes...realize that with the introduction of these solid foods more than likely you will see a change in your baby's pooping habits. I think for the most part you will see that he will be a little constipated, especially when you give him the bananas. Prunes have been the only thing that I can give him that helps to regulate him. It took about 3 months for him to finally normalize in the poopy dept (tmi). And I still have days now where he has issues because we're still introducing new things.
Good luck, have fun with it. Just make sure you pay attention to any reactions.
HTH!

Re: feeding solids question
Don't forget peaches.
Then you go into meats. Chicken, Turkey, Beef.
I posted a general schedule of meals that my ped gave me. You can do a search for it if you want.
ETA: I gave DS a spoonful of prunes everytime he ate bananas bc they constipated him.
ETA Again: Is there a reason you aren't finishing the veggies now? Why are you going to fruits and then back to the green veggies?

Lily had no reaction to the prunes or bananas...so you might be lucky!

I don't know - this is what the ped recommended - orange things first, then fruits, then green veggies.... I'm not sure the reasoning though.
Thanks for all the info - I really appreciate it!

Re: feeding solids question
M ped said after cereals I should do green veggies, orange veggies, and finally fruit. The reasoning for this is to go from non sweet to very sweet. If you start with the sweets first then maybe a baby may not take well to the veggies that are not as sweet. It makes sense to me so I am going to try it this way. I know other people who have done it in other orders and it was fine too.

I think that is a really old school way of thinking about it. DS had all the fruits before any of the veggies and he didn't reject any veggies.

Re: feeding solids question
just started cereal. But ped said after cereal start with fruits, then orange veg, then green veg. We were told if diarrhea do bananas and if constipated banana's are good to bind. Good luck
