Feel funny posting this
At what time did any of you ladies started to put garbage bags or some sheet protecters on your bed? DH wanted to know just incase my water breaks while in bed. I am 36 wks along and DD is still no where near the birth canal. I was going to wait until she hits the canal. Does that sound right.

I'm 38 weeks and don't plan on doing this. I never even thought of it.

Re: Feel funny posting this
Also, I already have a hard enough time sleeping and getting comfortable. I couldn't imagine sleeping on plastic.

I heard that it is not that common for PG women water to break on it's own. Not saying it couldn't happen. If it makes you feel better, then you should do it. I would wait until the doctor says you are at least dialted to do it. I have been 1cm dilated for almost 3 weeks, with no change.

Thats what I was going to do, and DH thought I was alittle crazy for waiting that long. I told him just because one of my sisters' water broke in bed doesn't mean it might happen to me. I think I am going to wait until they tell me.
Thank you

I am not doing it either. I am such a light sleeper, that if it happens, as soon as I feel a little wet, I will wake up and jump up. We need a new bed anyway!

Re: Feel funny posting this
Never really thought about this question either and I am also 36 weeks....ummm...I have a mattress pad - so I don't think I am going to do much.
What is the chance that the water will break while in bed??

Re: Feel funny posting this
I never put anything extra on the bed when I was pregnant with my son. We had the mattress pad.
Also: less than 15% of woman's water break before the onset of labor.
My water didn't break until I was 10cm and I was pushing! My son came out pretty clean!

Re: Feel funny posting this
I never thought about it...my water didn't break on its own..and a lot of people don't realize that MOST times its not a huge gush of tons of water, it usually comes in a small leak..I wouldn't really give it much thought!

Re: Feel funny posting this
i have a waterproof mattress cover on my bed already - with dogs and a baby, i like to have my mattress protected
it's a good thing to have on your mattress when you have a baby, because inevitably they will spit up or pee on your bed. or, when they're toddlers, deliberately spill their milk on your bed just to test you but i digress...
just for the record, my water never broke on its own - it was broken for me when i was 8cm dilated. i don't think it's too common for water to break before labor starts...

Re: Feel funny posting this
I never did this. Last time I woke up in the am & had a few drops (nothing that a pantiliner couldn't contain). I went to the bathroom & felt a little more & then when I laid back down I felt a few more drops--that was all.

Re: Feel funny posting this
get this mattress cover It is water proof and it keeps nasty things (mites and allergens) from getting into your mattress. I use it all the time not just when pregnant. I don't want my mattress ruined. So i don't have to worry about my water breaking, ds diaper leaking, ds spitups, or anything else getting into my mattress.

Re: Feel funny posting this
I heard of this too but do not plan on doing it.
1. You rarely hear of water breaking these days let alone in bed.
and 2. I want a new mattress so I'd more than welcome a big splash in bed!!!

Re: Feel funny posting this
We have a mattress pad on our bed anyway( 3 dogs) so I am just going to use that but I agree with the PP; invest in a matress cover rather than sleeping on a plastic bag....
It is the PERFECT way to get a new mattress though ...too bad ours is brand new!

Re: Feel funny posting this
Lisa -- I bought a waterproof mattress cover at Target this weekend. I figure I'll wait till about 36 weeks and then put it on. I just don't want to worry about dealing with a wet matress, god forbid.
