Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

I've sorta been sticking my head in the sand when it comes to researching baby stuff because I feel so overwhelmed. DH and I decided that when we got to 14 weeks we'd start looking into brands and safety ratings and figure out slowly what we want to register for and/or buy.

I just sat down to start looking about 10 minutes ago and I'm already overwhelmed! Where do I start? Is there a trusted website I go to that will tell me what is safe and what is not?

I'm honestly starting to feel panicky thinking about this ... registering for baby is not nearly as fun as registering for our wedding ... I just picked out pretty stuff and called it a day!

Please help!

Baby bargains helped me narrow stuff down. I also emailed/talked to every girl I'm close with and asked them for tips about things they used didn't use.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

I was totally in the same boat as you...

Basically the only things I researched were strollers and car seats.

The rest of the stuff I got the same that my friends who are BTDT moms..

And registering? We brought a friend who walked us through BBB and told us what we'd need. It was SUCH a relief, bc IMO, BBB and BRU are way way way too overwhelming.

Good luck!

Do a little at a time and remember you have some time so you can change your mind if you do some research and decide you like something betterChat Icon

Re: Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

Baby Bargains was a huge help for me.

Anything that I still was unsure about I'd either post here or ask my sister who was currently pregnant with her third when I was pregnant with my first.

You are more than welcome to check my registry and get ideas. We did lots of research plus I've been around all my nieces and nephews from the start and I know whats necessary. I made sure to check the big items and the reviews/safety. FM me..

Re: Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

I haaaated registering in the beginning! DH and I then came up with a system where we would go to BBB or BRU and look at one specific item before registering (around the time that you started looking). I think the first thing we went to look at was a stroller, and we went home immediately after deciding on a stroller. We did the same with a car seat and swing. It sounds silly, but I was so overwhelmed with registering that this cut down my anxiety!

ETA: I also registered mainly for basic things, so if you want to check out my registry, I'm on Amazon and BRU Chat Icon.

Thank you girls so much. It's so hard to get perspective on things when you're in the middle of panicking. I don't know anyone in real life who has kids so I feel like I have no one really to rely on but you girls.

We are going to go to BB and see what we like, then go home and research. As someone who researches everything. I tried to do that first and got crazy overwhelmed. I am hoping that having fewer chocies will be easier. We'll see???

Just want to thank you all again for the thoughtful advice. DH and I looked around a little bit last night and decided we'd go on Saturday to either BRU or BBB and see what strollers we like, and then research them from there. Otherwise it's just too overwhelming.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

honestly, the book baby bargains is what got me through. i took my time, brought it with me to buy buy baby, and tried things out myself. i'm still overwhelmed now that i actually have all the stuff in my house, but baby bargains helped me settle on what to get and what i would need. also i spoke to people with kids! but i can't tell you how many times i went to buy buy baby alone, walked around, and asked the VERY helpful sales people questions. and if you want to look at my registry, fm me!

Re: Feeling overwhelmed re: registry and baby items

Call me if I can help at all. Not that I have any clue if what I registered for us "right" or not... it helped that we got an infant seat and snap & go from someone, although the one we'd decided to register for is the one she gave us. I like the baby bargains book a lot! I have to go get a diaper pail soon so I've been reading up again. Chat Icon

I'm sure you guys will do great!!!
