For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
they couldn't live without Thought this might help.
Infant bath/sling- we had this pillow they have since discontinued but I loved it and used it until DD could sit up.
4oz and 8oz bottles- I really loved the Dr. Brown's brand and plan on getting the new BPA free ones.
Diapers, diapers and more diapers- definately register for those.
Swing, bouncer, and playmat. I loved our papsan swing but I would now get one that plugged in- those batteries kill you. Bouncer- we used the FP Infant/Toddler Rocker- DD still uses it. I may be getting the Rainforest one this time since I heard so many raves and my friend works for FP. Playmat- they are all fun and really help with tummy time.
Boppy pillow- amazing if you are breast feeding- helpful even if you bottle feed. I used it for both since I supplemented.
Rattles and toys- I registered for a few and was glad I did- we really used them in the beginning.
Things I found silly but other people may have liked bottle and wipe warmers The big infant bath tub- I got one second hand from a friend and never used it- we went from sink to tub. Single breast pump- definately not helpful unless you have an overabundance of milk. Buy the best you can afford but definately a double pump.
I will add as I think of more and hope other moms will too!

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
For me there were a few things that I really loved:
The fleece halo sleep sack with the swaddle attachment. They only make it in Newborn size, but it lasted a really long time for DD. I plan on getting more for this pregnancy.
The Podee Hands free bottle. It was fantastic when we were out and about (like the mall) and she needed to eat.
Sassy Baby's first toys. There was a good assortment of stuff in the set and it kept DD entertained.
I love the playtex drop ins, but looking back, I think that I would have just gotten the large bottles and some extra nipples and used the smaller liners with them. The 4 oz was only used for a little while and I didn't find the measurements on the side of the bottle to be accurate, so I always used a measuring cup anyway.
I never used a wipes warmer or bottle warmer and didn't have any problems.
I will edit if I think of anything else....I am sure that I am forgetting about something!

Cool Thread!
I am in love with both my SlingEZEEBaby Sling and the Bjorn carrier. DS is 10 weeks and I love "wearing" him, I haven't used our stroller at all yet, its so easy to get around and run errands (and wash all those bottles!) when you can wear the baby!!!

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
great list!!
i haven't been a mom for very long, but i will add:
SwaddleMe! so much easier than trying to swaddle him with blankets
SwaddleMe
also, try to find a really interesting mobile for the crib. DS hated the one that comes with his bedding set, but he loves the one from his PNP!
i would also register for a sling - i got the peanut shell sling but any sling is fine. it's great for when DC won't let you put him down and you need to get stuff done.

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
with less than 24 hours to go for DD#2 i am scrambling to think of things i need but have forgotten...
car seat car seat stroller frame co-sleeper (not a must have but wanted to try it with DD#1) pack n play audio/video monitor sheets sleepsacks waterproof mattress pads diaper and first aid essentials bottles/BFing paraphernalia tub and bathing essentials boppy pillow swing (we pitched DD#1's swing and opted for a travel swing instead)
i wouldn't register for clothing and toys, you'll get tons anyway and can add on as time goes on...

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
ooh get a pack (or 3!) of cloth diapers. A lot of moms use them as burp cloths, but here's my tip: I use one over the changing pad cover -- I spent our 1st week at home changing and washing our pad cover 8345 times. The little guy would "go" every time I opened a diaper (still does!). So its much easier to let the cloth catch it and change that as needed!!
ETA: Steal the bulb aspirator from the baby's bassinet in the hospital (steal 2 or 3 if you can, for your diaper bags!) - the ones that came with my first aid kit s*cks. The hospital one is MUCH MUCH better.

yes and yes!
i use a small waterproof cloth over the changing pad cover as well.
if you plan of BFing, also ask for a starter kit from the hospital as well. i was told if i didn't ask for it and wanted it after i was discharged i would have to pay for it!

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
This is great ladies!!
Question-I plan on BFing (if all works out) and then pumping. I want to use the playtex drop-ins as bottles eventually when DH feeds him and for daycare. How many bottles should I register for?
Also, for BFing moms...what's the deal with the breast pads and breast shields? Do i need both, if so how many? And for the breast shields...there's different sizes?!?!?!

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
OK as I understand it...
Breast pads - you can register for those, but you may not need them. Better to wait until you're BFing, I didnt leak so I have a box I don't need
Breast shields-only helpful if you have inverted nipples?
Nipple shields - they REALLY helped me temporarily when I was struggling with sore nips, but they're not recommended as they can interfere with latching and supply, so I'd say wait and see on that.
But register for the lansinoh ointment, it really helps and its

right now for DD#2 i have 6 small evenflow glass bottles if need be and i plan to BF again. with DD#1 i EBF for about 2-3 weeks before i introduced a bottle so that DH and other people could feed her if needed. once the bottle was introduced, i bought a few different kinds and settled on avent which she seemed to like the most. i wouldn't register for much because you may wind up experimenting as well...
breast pads, brest shields, nursing bras, plus all the other stuff...i had no need for any of it. except for lansinoh lanolin...total necessity!

Colette don't laugh but I swear to god I had no idea what the breast shields were for......I was completely like so thank you for explaining. I felt like a moron.

Why the heck would you know about them? Its not like people go around talking about their breast shields! I think that is a perfectly appropriate thing to be clueless about!

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
ok more...this is really helpling me girls (and i hope helping others too). I'm getting a little further online, and, one of my girls is going to come with me on Saturday to BRU so I'm happy.
Next question: mattress covers.....I assume I need a waterproof cover to go underneath the sheet? Any brand recommendations?

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
Yeah, the Basic Comfort Ultimate Crib Sheet has rave reviews. I heard it's easier to put it above the sheet as that makes it easier to change it. Who is going to look inside your crib to see if the pattern of the ultimate crib sheet matches your bedding anyway?
Here's a picture...
Also, you may wanna get this Skip Hop diaper wallet for short trips with baby or just for keeping it in your living room so you don't have to lug the bigger diaper bag around...

I just bought one at BRU. I suggest buying a few though, because at night if baby is sick/leaks, you want to have a spare (so you dont have to do laundry right away)

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
Alissa - BATteRIES!!! loads and loads and loads of batteries!!! Its a PITA when that ONE thing the baby loves batteries die and you have no spares, trust me its NOT FUN.
My swing uses *4* D size batts, the bouncy is 1 D, the playmat arch is 4 AAAs and the bassinet is... I forget.
If you were super organized you could even list the battery operated equipment and what size and quantity they use, and keep that in your wallet so you can pick some up while out running other errands

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
For the ladies (and their DHs) who used a Baby Bjorn or the like...which kind, there's original, active, synergy, air????? I want to use a sling, but DH wants a carrier for when we're walking around the city. ETA: My DH is a big guy if that matters.

Re: For Ruby- the BTDT Mom's List of Baby Registry Items....
I recommend this Lascal Carrier instead of the Bjorn.
DH refuses to wear a sling and I heard the Bjorn doesn't give enough back support.
We've tried it and it's really comfy and cool looking. :D
