Ferber Method
I tried to go and get his book today, and they didnt have it. They have it at another store, and I will get it tomorrow.
My question though....how many days did it take for this to work?

Re: Ferber Method
2 days. I will say that we are currently having to redo Ferber. Sometimes when your child has a drastic change there is a need to re-ferberize.

Re: Ferber Method
I got the book, and am going to try it tonight. My son is 7 months old, and used to be a fabulous sleeper. Since he was like a month old, he would go to sleep on his own, and sleep for like 12-13 hours. Then when he was 5 months old, he got the stomach bug, and it has never been the same. I hope this works!
Any tips?
Also, do you think I should take the pacifier away at the same time. He only uses it to go to sleep.

Re: Ferber Method
My tip would be to stay strong and realize that it is going to be so hard. Oh, you and your dh should be on the same page with how long you will let your son cry etc. That was hard for my DH and I the first night.
You could take the paci away if he is not too attached. If he is attached it could make it worse. My dd never had an attachment to the paci so I took it away one day and she did not bat an eyelash. I got lucky in that department.
Good luck, I hope it is an easy transition for you and your son.

Ferber would say to take the paci away. Part of his theory is that if you get too associated with falling to sleep one way it will be the only way you can fall asleep. Your DC needs to learn to self soothe and not rely on outside forces for it. Like my DS always fell asleep while BFing. It was how we put him down for the night. When we Ferberized we rearranged bedtime to make storytime the last thing not BFing. DS cried the first night for 20 min. before going to sleep, but adjusted great.

Re: Ferber Method
Do you think its ok to take the paci away, even thought the SIDS association says to use it for the first year. The thing is, when the paci drops, he starts to cry, so I wouldn't mind getting rid of it...

My DS and many children I know have never used a paci and they are all fine.

Re: Ferber Method
It can work quickly, ie in a few days, but be aware that this is not a one time solution, you will be doing this method again and again when things change. Just be strong and remember that your baby is safe....
Good Luck!
