FET vs Fresh ivf cycle

I just did a fresh uncuccessful IVF cycle last month. We have 2 frozen. Their "grade" is 2- 3's. We have no money left with our insurance. Fortunatly we're getting new ins come january. So i have to wait till january to do a FET. My question is should i just do a fresh cycle instead of a frozen? I only have 10k per lifetime coverage. So i can do one or the other. This is our last go at it. Emotionally im done. Im very fortunate to have 1 DD.

Re: FET vs Fresh ivf cycle

I've done both a fresh IVF and two FETs. The cost for FET was significantly lower than IVF, so while it will eat into the 10k lifetime, it would certainly not exhaust it totally (or put a huge dent) in my experience. Additionally, the physical toll of a FET cycle for me was WAY less than that of IVF... the meds were considerably less (and cheaper), a shorter cycle from start to "finish", less monitoring/procedures etc.

I'd speak with your Dr but if you do have embryos why wouldn't you try those first or is the grading indicative of the fact that they wouldn't "work?" (I dont recall having number grading just letters like AA, BA etc sorry).

Good Luck!

I agree with this. I had a fresh cycle (1 embryo) and it ended in a blighted ovrum back in May. Then I just had a chemical pregnancy in August with a FET (2 embryos). You never know. I agree though with the original poster, a FET is definitely less money and less monitoring. Good luck! Chat Icon

Thanks for your input. I'd prefer to do the frozen cycle. But im nervous about the embryo quality. The way they graded them threw me off too.

Can the doctor give you a better explanation on the grading of the frozen embryos you have? A very valid question you might want to know is what the success rate is of implantation with embryos transferred with a 2 or 3 grading.
I found that to be the deciding factor as to going forward with my FET. After my MC at 7 weeks we really weren't sure we wanted to try again. We were both pretty fragile. We sat down with my RE who told us that she has a 55% success rate with FET. Based on her statistics, transferring my best 5 day blast would yield a 70% success rate.
We went forward with it and I am now 28 weeks pregnant.

Thank you! i'll make sure to ask those questions. We were so lucky with my DD it worked the 1st time. I had a 3day transfer with her, this time around i had a 5dt. I feel so clueless now. And to be honest the nurse has been more helpful the the dr. The last time i spoke with him was in april. I want to talk to my OB before i make a follow up the the RE. I really apprecitate the input
