Fever Question - not high but LOW!

so emma's 4 month shots were delayed on Friday because she had a fever over 100... we have been giving her tylenol (last dose at 5:30'ish) and we just did her rectal temp and it's LOW... did it 3 times:

97.0
97.7
97.6

is it a fever if it's LOWER than normal? i'm going to call the doc's office tomorrow am and find out if we can do the shots but i just was curious...

(side note - she is also teething - so that's boatloads of fun)

anyone know?

Re: Fever Question - not high but LOW!

My sister and I were talking about fevers yesterday (as you know she's a pediatrician). She said peds don't consider it a fever unless it's over 100.4 and many peds don't consider anything under 101 a fever. She doesn't even give my nephew tylenol for anything under 101.

ETA: I thought 97ish was in the normal range.

Sounds like she is within the normal range. Low-grade fevers usually hover around 100.

thats considered normal. 98.6 is more of an average than a rule. My temp is always in the 97s...and I've asked my doctor about it.

Yea my doc said that 98.6 it just the average temp. I tend to be in the high 96s and he said it's perfectly normal.
