Fever Question

Sorry DS has never had a fever before....but for the past 2 days he has been running a low fever on and off. He went to the Dr on Wed and was prescribed an antibotic, nebulizer treatment and tylenol for his fever.

This morning he woke up with 101 fever but it went down and he is playing, drinking (milk and pedialyte) and eating.

Should I be worried about his fever for these few days? 2 people told me I should take him directly to the ER and are making me worried I am not doing the right thing.

Re: Fever Question

My doctor would call that a low grade fever and would tell me to stick with the tylenol. I would call the ped for advice or even for a visit since they just recently saw him and are aware but hopefully it will go down.

Something to keep in mind...when we wake our bodies are much warmer and will regulate as we move around. I think that is what you are seeing with your son. Coupled with the fact that our body heals while we sleep it was clearly working so my gut says this is part of the process.

If your mommy instinct tells you otherwise...go with it. Chat Icon

Re: Fever Question

If he is having trouble breathing, if he is not eating or drinking and/or his fever goes up to 103, then I would take him.

As for now, just keep him hydrated, and give him tylenol.

Re: Fever Question

My ped said that except for babies under 6 months, how high a fever is isn't important. He said there is no special number to take a child to the ER, if they are well hydrated, and playing, they are fine.
