Fever question-Updated
JAG has been sick all week (runny nose, coughing cold type sick) he went to the doc today who checked his ears (no infection) and his throat (was very red but no strep). He is now running a fever. At what temp should I get freaked out? I am trying to figure out if I am over reacting or not.
Thanks.
eta- he just woke up and his temp is 104.9 Clear answer for me now

Re: Fever question
My ped says not to worry until 105, but I would lose it by then. I start to worry about 103 and would call then. But if JAG has other medical problems, I would probably call a bit sooner.

I agree. Most important thing with a fever is to keep him hydrated.
I hate when they're sick.

Re: Fever question
at 102.8 last week I called the dr, mainly since I was unsure of the tylenol dosage I should give. They said if it climbs to 103 to go on alert then.

did you give him motrin? if you went to the doc and he ruled out strep (not common in babies and toddlers) and ears, it's probably viral (which sux)
I highly suggest Motrin every four hours. When Bella had a 104.7 fever we did that and even though it only went down to a high 102 and 103, it felt better than 104!

Re: Fever question-Updated
I hope he feels better! Poor guy!
Emma ran a temp of 105.7 - I called my sister who is an RN in the trauma unit - She said they don't worry until it hits 107 because at that temp it can cause brain damage. We soaked Emma in a luke warm tub - and gave motrin and tylenol (interchanged) every 4 hours. She wound up having a febrile seizure - Even then - they don't worry too much about it. They just treated the illness.
For me, anything above 103 and I get worried and I call the dr (or my sis ).

Re: Fever question-Updated
My kids have gone up into the 104's and I do Motrin and Tylenol back to back non-stop. It really works well!
My doctor told me that when it is such a high it is usually viral. Ear infections don't usually cause a temperature that high - but I guess you never know.
I would definitely take him to the doctor tomorrow being it is Friday (you don't want to get stuck over the weekend) and to make sure an infection hasn't popped up. Sometimes they start feeling the pain of an infection before it becomes visibly obvious to the doctor.

Re: Fever question-Updated
awww, hope he feels better Deb. Try putting an onion slice in his each of his socks. It helps draw out the fever.
It really works, I'm not just being crazy.
Steven had a 102.2 then I put the onions, 2 hours later he was down to 100
